TheOne Pieceanime was as successful, so it isn’t surprising that it eventually scored a live-action adaptation. TheOne Piecelive-action series debuted onNetflixin August 2023 with eight episodes. It received an overwhelmingly positive reception from both critics and fans for being faithful to the source material. Netflix confirmed the second season just two weeks after its premiere. More characters will be featured in the upcoming season and one just shared a major update about a fan-favorite.
Joe Manganiellois one of the new faces fans will see inOne PieceSeason 2. He will portray Mr. 0, aka Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Seas. Crocodile is one of the most iconic antagonists in the series, and even if he’s at odds with the Straw Hat pirates, fans love him because of his complex personality, stylish fashion, and mysterious aura that fuels fan theories and keeps the character interesting. Crocodile has a facial scar that stretches diagonally from below his left eye toward his right cheek. The stitches on his face make his presence more menacing. Although Crocodile’s scar is one of his distinguishable features, Oda has never officially explained how he got that scar. Another distinct feature that remains unclear to fans is the golden hook in his left arm. However, the questions surrounding these things might finally be put to rest inOne PieceSeason 2. In an interview with Parade, Manganiello teased that they could address the mysterious scar on Sir Crocodile’s face, including his arm with a hook. He said:
I had the opportunity to talk to Oda about my thoughts on where his scar came from, how the loss of the limb happened, and the hook was replaced.
One Piecefans have various theories as to why he had the scar on his face. One of the most popular theories is that he got it from a previous battle against a powerful pirate, probablyMihawkorWhitebeard. However, some speculate that it was probably from a personal or emotional trauma, suggesting a dark childhood. A few believed that the scar could be a symbolic representation of his past failures after his downfall in Alabasta. As for his limb, some believed someone cut it off; that’s why he replaced it with a hook. However, some speculate that he has the hook as a weapon. But based on Manganiello’s statement, Crocodile lost his arm and the hook served as a replacement. Additionally, Manganiello also teased that they could tap into the reasons Crocodile decided to shift career, from a pirate to a “casino owner and mob boss,” and how he got his Devil Fruit powers.
Manganiello’s revelation is promising because fans have been looking for answers about Crocodile’s facial scar and hooked arm. Addressing the character’s scar and missing arm could put fans to rest, as they have been wondering about these for years. It’s also interesting that they plan to showcase Sir Crocodile’s backstory, not just his physical transformation, but why he became the leader of a criminal organization despite his dream of being the Pirate King. And from the look of it, it appears that Manganiello will bepart of the show beyond Season 2because they seem to be going deep into Sir Crocodile’s history. In another interview, he said they took a break between seasons two and three but would resume later this year to work on “the next part of the story.” It seems that Mr. 0 will lose some of his mystery in Netflix’s live-action, and whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on fans.
