As fans ofMy Hero Academiagear up for the main story’s conclusion with the upcoming final anime season, there will inevitably be complaints about missed opportunities for the show. With so many characters the show introduces and brings into the story, it’s difficult to pay off every story beat and character moment.
However, one big missed opportunity might take the cake as the series draws to a close. In the mainMy Hero Academiacontinuity,we never really get to see Deku and All Might team uptogether to defeat villains. At every opportunity, it seems, the two are in separate locations when fighting, never combining their powers for some sought-after dual-smash type combat.
All Might and Deku’s Fighting History
Never Quite Teaming Up
ThroughoutMy Hero Academia,the promise of Deku and All Might’s team-upis teased but never comes to fruition. We are constantly worried that All Might will run out of time with his powers, and Deku doesn’t truly learn to control One For All in a useful way until the number one hero’s time has run out. However,All Might overcomes many attempts at his demiseto still persist as a hero despite his waning powers. In Season 7, he even develops an armored All Might suit that lets him stand on the battlefield with All For One despite being essentially Quirkless.
The final arc would have been the perfect opportunity to finally have that team-up between Deku and All Might that fans would have desperately liked to see. However, due to the plot circumstances, Deku and All Might again had to fight in separate locations, leaving this wish ultimately unfulfilled. While All Might and Deku interact during the final battle, it is not through some epic ultimate finishing move that they pull off together. This feels like a missed opportunity for the series, since One For All holders are in so much pain from constantly losing their mentors. It would have been nice, as the show often does, to show Deku and All Might defying their character archetypes and teaming up together to defeat the villains with their combined strengths.

How Could It Have Been in the Main Series
While those watching the main series will be left absent an epic team-up moment between Deku and All Might, oneMy Hero Academiamovie slightly pays off this idea. InMy Hero Academia: Two Heroes, Deku and All Might are given the opportunity to launch a combination attack against the film’s main villain, Wolfram.

While only a short scene, we really get a sense ofhow powerful a force Deku and All Might would beusing One For All together. Approaching Wolfram at blinding speed, Deku and All Might push their bodies to their limits to perform a “Double Detroit” smash on the villain. When the villain still isn’t down, they enter “plus ultra” mode, finishing him off in a gorgeous spectacle of lights, explosions, and particle effects.
While this moment is spectacular, the canonicity of the MHA movies leaves something to be desired for some fans. There are references to some of the characters from the movies throughout the series, but the events in those movies are never directly referenced in the main story. This means it’s likely these didn’t actually occur in the main continuity ofMy Hero Academia, which is a shame.
It’s possible that one reason the show never showed such an epic team-up is that it would simply trivialize many of the villains in the main series continuity. It’s hard to imagine a single villain that could stand up against All Might and Deku both firing attacks off with their full power. All For One had to slowly, over the years, formulate a plan to take out All Might alone from the shadows after his defeat by the number one hero. If he had to face off against Deku and All Might at the same time, it seems hopeless for him without some plot convenience. Still,it would have been nice to see Dekuand Armored All Might stand together, at least for a moment, and pull off some fun combination attacks together in the final war arc.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
