Fans ofMy Hero Academiahave had quite a difficult time coping with the end of the manga for about a year now, but Horikoshi brought some relief with the release of the finalMy Hero Academiafanbook. Conversely, it was also the last MHA content that fans would get, which means that the story is officially over now. Still, fans are satiated with what they got in this fanbook.
Horikoshi provided a ton of exciting information about My Hero Academia to the fans in the fanbook, including bits of information about the side characters as well. All things considered, it was truly a phenomenal end to the story he dedicated a decade of his life to. Fans thoroughly enjoyed the fanbook as well, but if there’s one thing that they found a problem with, it is the fact that the magazine confirms Deku didn’t fulfill a promise he delivered at the beginning.
Deku’s Goal Is Widely Misunderstood
It is safe to say that a good chunk of fans were expecting Deku to be the Number One Hero at the end of the series. However, what these fans don’t realize is that Deku never stated that he wanted to be the Number One. Deku simply wanted to be a Hero and save people with a smile on his face. He wanted to help those around him, and above all,be like All Might. Specifically claiming the Number One Position wasn’t his goal, so, in a way, a lot of slack that fans have Ben giving Horikoshi isn’t justified at all.

But, then again, at the beginning ofMy Hero Academia, Deku clearly states that this is the story of how he became the greatest hero. Now, “Greatest” and “Number One” are two different things, but if Horikoshi’s statement is to be believed, Deku achieved neither at the end of the story, even though he’s a legend all over the world.
Deku Doesn’t Become The Greatest Hero
All Might Is Confirmed To Be The Greatest Hero
At the beginning of the story, Deku confirms that what the fans are witnessing is the story of how he became the greatest hero. Midway through the series, Deku once again reiterates that this is the story of how he became the greatest Hero. Fans were fine with Deku not being the Number One Hero, or even losing his quirk, as long as he was recognized as the Greatest Hero after his showing in the Final War of the series. While Deku did incredibly well and earned himself a place alongside the legends of the world, he still didn’t become the greatest Hero. At the end of the manga, Horikoshi reveals that all of Class 1-A became the greatest Hero due to their role in the war.

But, more than that, in the final fanbook ofMy Hero Academia,written by Horikoshi himself, it is confirmed that All Might remains to be the “Greatest Hero of All Time,” largely due to his achievements over the years and the impact that he had on people.
All Might Still Overshadows Deku
Despite Deku initially claiming that he would become the greatest Hero, in the end,All Might is never surpassed in that regard. Make no mistake, in terms of power, Deku could easily have matched and even surpassed All Might at his peak. But, what some fans don’t like is the fact that despite Deku saving Japan and potentially even the world from doom, Horikoshi still recognizes All Might as the greatest Hero of all time.
The My Hero Academia manga was wrapped upby the mangaka, Horikoshi, in 2024. The story features 430 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus, as the story used to be serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump when it was still ongoing.
When it comes to the anime, this series is still awaiting its final season, which will be released later this year. The series can be watched on Crunchyroll.
