Summary

Devil Fruitsare the main power system of theOne Pieceworld, as anybody who eats one of these mysterious fruits immediately gains incredible supernatural abilities. Most of them tend to use their newfound powers to help others, whether it’s innocent civilians or fellow members of their pirate crews, but there have been some notorious exceptions.

Some Devil Fruit powers are inherently selfish, as their only purpose is to benefit their user and literally nobody else. While sometimes good people can end up acquiring these powers by accident, a lot of theseselfish Devil Fruitswere eaten by villains, antagonists, and many other malicious characters, with the following being the most egregious examples in the entire series.

8Yomi Yomi No Mi

Can Only Resuscitate Its User And Nobody Else

Brookis a perfect example of a noble character who ate a Devil Fruit that tragically granted him selfish powers.TheYomi Yomi no Miallowed him to resurrect after dying, which sounds great in theory, but it also sentenced him to a life of loneliness. Brook had originally died right alongside all the other members of his crew, the Rumbar Pirates, while they were happily playing music together, and yet, he’s the only one who later came back to life.

The Yomi Yomi no Mi is selfish by nature because it can’t resurrect anybody aside from the person who originally ate it, and as a result, Brook had to spend fifty years completely alone in his ship, surrounded by the corpses of his friends. This is a Devil Fruit that should be eaten by someone malicious because anybody with loved ones in their lives will inevitably end up alone because of it.

7Shiku Shiku No Mi

The Blackbeard Pirates are an infamous crew, so it should be no surprise that their highest-ranked commanders have intentionally sought out and eaten powerful Devil Fruits that allow them to easily spread death and destruction. A prominent example is the crew’s doctor,Doc Q, who ate theShiku Shiku no Mi.

This Devil Fruit allows him to infect other people with pretty much any type of disease he can think of, which is both incredibly dangerous and evil. So far, the only disease Doc Q spread with this ability was a fairly innocent Feminization Disease that turned men into women, but the Shiku Shiku no Mi has the potential to become a bioweapon of mass destruction that will only benefit its user and his fellow crewmembers.

6Ito Ito No Mi

Can Be Used To Puppeteer Other People

As one of the most powerful and infamous villains in the entire series,it makes sense thatDonquixote Doflamingoate an extremely selfish Devil Fruit. In his case, theIto Ito no Miallows him to create and manipulate string, which may not sound that bad at first, until he showcased some of its deadliest uses.

With his strings, Doflamingo can restrain other people, slice through his opponents, create replicas of himself, and even temporarily stitch internal injuries in his own body. However, the most disturbing technique in his entire arsenal is Parasite, which allows him to manipulate other people’s bodies as if they were puppets and played a big role in his forced takeover of Dressrosa. Hypothetically, maybe someone kinder could find more altruistic uses for the powers of the Ito Ito no Mi, but it has otherwise come off as a Devil Fruit that only evil people can use effectively.

5Magu Magu No Mi

The Only Logia Devil Fruit Whose Sole Purpose Is Destruction

Logia-type Devil Fruits are fascinating because, since they let their users generate and control a specific element, like fire, ice, light, or flora, they can be surprisingly beneficial to other people. However, there is one huge, and noteworthy, exception:theMagu Magu no Mi, which was eaten by none other thanSakazuki(AKA Akainu).

Since this Devil Fruit allows him to turn into, control, and create magma, he has mostly used it for combat. This power fits Sakazuki way too perfectly, because he’s a ruthless believer of Absolute Justice who exclusively uses his magma to kill and destroy everything in his path, and not much else. At the end of the day, the Magu Magu no Mi benefits nothing or nobody else, aside from its user and his violent tendencies.

4Hobi Hobi No Mi

Ruined The Lives Of An Entire Population For Ten Years

TheHobi Hobi no Miis such a powerful, evil, and selfish Devil Fruit that it was the main tool of Donquixote Doflamingo’s plan to take over Dressrosa ten years in the past.It was eaten by one of his subordinates,Sugar, who immediately gained eternal youth after the fact and thus still looks like a kid. On top of that, she used her newfound powers to turn the innocent inhabitants of Dressrosa into toys, with the added effect of erasing their existence from the memories of anybody who knew them.

Thanks to the Hobi Hobi no Mi, the Donquixote Family was able to rule over Dressrosa as they wished for over ten years, and anybody who tried to oppose them would be immediately turned into a toy slave. Fortunately, the curse-like effects of this Devil Fruit were deactivated when Usopp frightened Sugar so much that she fainted, turning everybody back into their original forms in the process. This is a truly terrifying Devil Fruit ability that can only be used to ruin other people’s lives, and not much more.

3Shibo Shibo No Mi

Empowers Its User By Taking Something From Other Living Beings

There’s no denying that the most selfish Devil Fruits are those that take something from other people to benefit their users, andCharlotte Smoothie’sShibo Shibo no Miis a perfect example of this occurrence. With this power, she can drain liquids from both living and non-living things and drink them either for her own pleasure or to enhance her physical strength.

It has been shown that the process of draining liquid visibly harms her victims, meaning that Smoothie needs to make them suffer to take advantage of her powers. Additionally, she can even squeeze herself to remove hazardous substances (like poison) from her body, and while she could theoretically do the same for other people, Smoothie has only used the powers of the Shibo Shibo no Mi to benefit herself.

2Kage Kage No Mi

Steals Shadows So Its User Can Create A Massive Army

The experience of suddenly losing his entire pirate crew traumatizedGecko Moriaso much that he eventually decided that he no longer needed real people by his side, and that his new crew was going to be made up entirely of disposable minions. That’s why he used the powers of hisKage Kage no Mito steal other people’s shadows and put them inside zombies that follow his orders.

The functionality of this Devil Fruit is naturally quite selfish for two big reasons: firstly, people who get their shadows stolen will vaporize when exposed to the sunlight - something that Moria seemingly doesn’t care about – and secondly, it allows its user to sit around while his zombie minions do whatever he wants them to.If anything else fails, Moria can use his Shadow‘s Asgard techniqueto absorb all the stolen shadows from his zombies and enhance his physical strength in the process, which makes his Devil Fruit powers seem even more selfish.

1Wara Wara No Mi

Allows Its User To Redirect Damage To Other People

The most selfish Devil Fruit in all ofOne Pieceis theWara Wara no Mi, since its main purpose is self-preservation, at any cost.It allows the pirate who ate it,Basil Hawkins, to create and manipulate straw at will, which may sound quite innocent at first, but it has a much deadlier secondary ability: to redirect any damage that was meant for its user to someone else, via small voodoo dolls.

With the terrifying powers of the Wara Wara no Mi, Hawkins has been able to lethally damage and even kill other people (in both the Sabaody Archipelago Arc and the Wano Country Arc) by transferring any damage that was meant for him to other individuals in his vicinity. Needless to say, Basil Hawkins was portrayed as one of the most self-centered and egotistical characters in the series, so the moment in which Killer used his own Devil Fruit powers against him to defeat him was incredibly satisfying.
