Summary
MindsEyedeveloper Build a Rocket Boy has responded to the game’s severe performance issues and bugs, promising another update that will aim to rectify the game’s most prominent issues.MindsEyeis the first title from Build a Rocket Boy, a development studio that was opened in 2018 by formerGrand Theft Autoproducer Leslie Benzies. While many of Benzies' fans have been eagerly anticipating the developer’s next game after his departure from Rockstar Games,MindsEyeseems to have been a massive disappointment.
After first being teased at Gamescom in 2022,MindsEyefinally released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC yesterday, June 10. Unfortunately, the game’s launch has been riddled with performance issues, bugs, glitches, and more. While there seems to be very little critique of the game’s story or general gameplay, its severe performance issues have resulted inmostly negative reviews forMindsEyeon Steam. Some players praised the game’s driving mechanics and story, but noted that its performance issues on PC are the worst they’ve ever seen. Players on consoles have also been left disappointed as the game supposedly struggles to maintain a solid 30 FPS even on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
MindsEye Addresses Performance Issues
MindsEyehas already revealed its ambitious post-launch plans, but it looks like the studio will now be focusing heavily on performance improvements following the game’s launch this week. After social media sites such as Twitter and Reddit were quickly flooded with images and videos of the game’s bugs and glitches, Build a Rocket Boy issued a response on Reddit (viaVGC), stating that the engineering team is “working around the clock to improve performance on mainstream hardware as well as consoles by integrating the performance improvements in Unreal Engine V5.6.” The studio then said it will be providing more details on the game’s third patch “within the next 24 hours,” which means more information should be shared later today.
Gamers were already cautious after previews for the game described it as a “broken mess, filled with bugs,” but Build a Rocket Boy’s co-CEO believed thenegative reaction toMindsEyewas a paid effortby rival studios. When asked by a fan if he believes the negative previews were “financed by someone,” Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard responded by saying “100%” and that there is a “concerted effort by some people that don’t want to see Leslie or Build A Rocket Boy to be successful.” However, now thatMindsEyeis in the hands of gamers, it’s clear that there are indeed a ton of performance issues and bugs that need to be fixed.
Although theGrand Theft Autocompetitor has gotten off to a rough start, plenty of fans say the game has the potential to be much better than it currently is. Hopefully, with some new hotfixes and updates,MindsEyeevolves into something special. As the title is published by IO Interactive, there is already aspecialHitmanmission planned forMindsEye. According to Build a Rocket Boy, the mission will be available post-launch and will feature the iconic Agent 47 as a playable character. The studio says the mission will be released sometime in July.
