The debut title from Scottish studio Build A Rocket Boy—founded by formerGTAlead developer Leslie Benzies—launched for PC and current-gen consoles on June 10. Early reactions toMindsEyefrom both fans and critics have been mixed, with criticism focused on technical issues and what some perceive as generic content.

Build A Rocket Boy is looking to address some of these grievances withthe firstMindsEyepost-launch update, which rolled out in the late morning hours (ET) on Friday, June 13. Identified as Hotfix #1, the patch optimizes the game’s CPU, GPU, and memory usage, in addition to fixing a recently identified memory leak. While the changelog is light on the specifics, the developer cited the newly addressed memory leak as the single biggest cause of crashes reported by early adopters. As such, Hotfix #1 should makeMindsEyenoticeably more stable.

New MindsEye Update Nerfs Annoying QTE

The June 13 patch also introduces one gameplay change by nerfing a controversial CPR mini-game. Found approximately two hours into the main story, this segment was originally implemented as anextremely punishing quick-time eventrequiring players to perform an elaborate sequence of trigger presses and analog stick movements simulating real-life cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques. Its difficulty has prevented a significant number of players from progressing, prompting vocal criticism on social media. Build A Rocket Boy did not elaborate on the extent of this nerf.

2 More MindsEye Mini-Games Have Been Tweaked

A new feature introduced in the game’s first hotfix update is a Depth of Field option available in the Settings menu. It allows players to adjust the effect’s intensity—or disable it entirely, if preferred. In addition to the CPR QTE changes, the June 13 patch also updates the Run Dungeon and MineHunter mini-games by resolving an issue with missing control prompts. The final change in the update is PC-specific: a warning now appears for users with disabled hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling or CPUs known to have potential crash issues.

The June 13 update is 2GB in size on the PS5, while weighing 4GB and 5.7GB on the Xbox Series X/S and PC, respectively. In the run-up to the game’s release, Build A Rocket Boyshared ambitious post-launch plans forMindsEye, promising a steady stream of playable content and assets for user-generated creations. While the developer is currently focused on resolving technical issues, there are no concrete signs that the game’s lukewarm reception has impacted these long-term goals.
