Despite the influx of negative reviews from players and critics,MindsEyeappears to be selling well, at least in the UK. According to new physical sales data for last week,MindsEyeis one of the best-selling games in the country. As expected,Mario Kart WorldandEA Sports FC 25dominated the charts, but rather surprisingly,MindsEyemanaged to sell more copies thanClair Obscur: Expedition 33,Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition,Breath of the Wild, and many more last week.
Plenty ofGrand Theft Autofans were keeping a close eye onMindsEye, mainly due to the fact that the new IP was helmed by Leslie Benzies, a formerGrand Theft Autoproducer and president at Rockstar Games. Unfortunately, itdoesn’t appear to have met the expectations of fans, receiving largely negative reviews from both players and critics. While there are some who believe the title has potential, with excellent driving mechanics and an interesting story,MindsEyeis filled with bugs, has poor optimization, and struggles to maintain 30 FPS even on the PlayStation 5 Pro. With so many issues, it seemed unlikely that the game would enter any sort of sales chart, but that is seemingly not the case.
MindsEye Appears to Be Selling Well in the UK
AlthoughMindsEyereceived mostly negative reviewsfrom both players and critics, it still appears to be selling relatively well, at least in the UK. According toPushSquare,MindsEyewas the fourth best-selling physical game in the UK last week. Rather unexpectedly, Nintendo’s highly anticipated launch of the Switch 2 seesMario Kart Worldtake the number one spot, followed byEA Sports FC 25at number two andHogwarts Legacyat number three. WithMindsEyeslotting itself in at the number four position, it has beaten the likes ofCyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and more. However, it should be worth noting that these sales are only for physical copies within the UK for the week ending June 14.
It hasn’t exactly been all sunshine and roses for Build a Rocket Boy’s first game, however, asMindsEyeis now the worst-reviewed game of the year. While the studio did not provide outlets with review codes prior to the game’s release, journalists have now begun publishing their reviews forMindsEye, and it isn’t good. The action-adventure game sits at a Metacritic score of 43, making it the worst-reviewed game of the year. Sure, its score could climb ever so slightly as more reviews continue to come in, but it’s unlikely to make much of a difference and will likely remain one of the worst games of 2025.
Build a Rocket Boy has committed itself to releasing plenty of new updates forMindsEyeover the coming weeks, with the first post-launch patch now live for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. According to the official patch notes, thefirstMindsEyeupdateincludes memory optimizations, aims to improve CPU and GPU performance, and address memory leak issues that were causing some users to experience crashes.
