Summary

Mike Flanagan’s nextStephen Kingadaptation reveals a star-studded cast. Flanagan is known for his inspired takes on King’s material, previously adaptingGerald’s GameandDoctor Sleep, a sequel toThe Shining. Flanagan’s next film is also based on King’s work, yet it steps outside the author’s horror genre roots with a more fantasy-centric tale inThe Life of Chuck, which boasts a similarly stacked cast.

In April, it was announced that Flanagan would be adapting the famousStephen KingnovelCarrie.Carriehas been adapted before, most notably in Brian De Palma’s 1976 take on the story, which is often regarded as a horror classic starring Sissy Spacek in the title role. It was most recently adapted in 2013, with Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie. However, that version fell flat, and Flanagan’s take on the novel will flesh out the story through a TV series adaptation. While the plot still follows Carrie through her high school troubles and her mother’s abuse, which spurs her telekinetic powers, the planned Amazon series is said to be areimagining of King’s beloved story. Flanagan is serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with the plan also seeing him direct a few episodes.

Carrieis planned to debut on Prime Video, likely in 2026. Having such a well-rounded cast also shows that the project is steadily moving along following its announcement, with Flanagan busy working on several projects, including aClayfacemovie for James Gunn’s DCU.

Of course, Flanagan is a known quantity among horror/sci-fi aficionados by now.
