Summary

Mario Kart Worldis shaking up the formula for Bob-ombs by changing how they work in a couple of ways. It’s one of the many ways thatMario Kart Worldis changing what fans have come to expect fromMario Kart 8 Deluxeand its predecessors.

Mario Kart Worldis a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, and to set it apart fromMario Kart 8 Deluxeon the Switch, it’s made a number of adjustments to how the game works. Some of these are brand-new additions, like the ability to freely explore the map with friends, while others are mere adjustments, like allowing up to 24 players to participate at once. Now, less than a month away from the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the game is revealing another new change being made to the established formula.

Now, according toNintendoSoup, the Bob-ombs inMario Kart Worldare set to function a bit differently from their counterparts in otherMario Kartgames. Those who have usedBob-ombs inMario Kartknow that they can be used offensively or defensively, by either throwing them at opponent racers or attaching them to the back of the player’s kart. Now, when a player gets a Bob-omb, the Bob-omb will immediately move to the back of a player’s kart. This change could have had some downsides in the existingMario Kartformula, as a bomb exploding at the back of a player’s kart will still impact them. InMario Kart World, though, a Bob-omb currently on the back of a player’s kart that explodes due to a collision will impact whatever hit the player, but not the player themselves.

Mario Kart World Bob-omb Change Could Impact Meta

As established players know, putting an item like abanana peel or a shell on the back of a player’s kartis a good idea for protecting against attacks from other players. Those who get too close will be staggered, while those who throw select items at the player will typically neutralize the banana or shell, but won’t impact the player otherwise. Bob-ombs had a similar function, but the penalty for having it explode on the back of the cart made them less ideal for this use. Now, though, players may very well be using Bob-ombs much more defensively.

Mario Kart Worldhas a lot of players interested due to the new adjustments and additions to the game, though there are some complaints, as well. So far, there’s been no indication that the additionalnon-Mariocharacters who were added toMario Kart 8 Deluxe, like Link, the Inkling, or Isabelle, will be present inMario Kart World, at least at launch. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been seeing extreme popularity in its pre-orders, and theMario Kart Worldbundle has been a popular choice, so it seems many fans are still eager to try it out.
