Summary
TheLies Of P: OvertureDLC adds some new challenging bosses and fills in players with more details about The Alchemists and Simon Manus. For fans of the base game,Overtureis more of the same, with some new fights and a bunch ofnew equipment to find. As well as adding a new chunk of story to play, though,Overturealso adds two new modes to the game once players have beaten the story.
These new modes are Boss Rematch and Death March, with the former being one-on-one boss fight replays with escalating difficulties. Death March is similar, except players have to select at least 3 bosses to fight back-to-back. Players can fight any boss they’ve beaten in Rematch, and the hardest version available for Death March will be the highest difficulty beaten in Rematch (if above the default of 3).
With any number of bosses selectable for Death March, at a minimum of three, players can give themselves some grueling tests.Fighting bosses back to backwith limited replenishment of healing can introduce new challenges to familiar fights. Focusing on three-boss runs, these are the hardest bosses players can fight back-to-back in Death March.
6Multi-Enemy Face-Off
Eldest Of The Black Rabbit Brotherhood; The Black Rabbit Brotherhood; Markiona, Puppeteer Of Death
The hardest thing about these back-to-back fights is the total number of enemies the player has to deal with. All of these fights feature multiple foes, often at once. Players may well be used to the Black Rabbit Brotherhood after fighting them twice in their first playthrough, but doing both fights back to back is a test of players' endurance.
Thenew DLC bossMarkiona caps this trio of fights off with an interesting take on a two-on-one scenario. Players will have to deal with her and her puppet, which will be tough if the Brotherhood fights drain too many resources.
5The Cursed Of Krat
Fallen Archbishop Andreas; Corrupted Parade Master; Romeo, King Of Puppets
This trio represents some of Krat’s tragic mistakes. While this group of base game bosses might not be the strongest individually, they present someinteresting and varied fights. Taking on these super-sized threats presents a different challenge to some of the game’s more agile bosses, with players having to time their reactions to slow but hard-hitting moves. Ending with the Puppet King means that players have to switch their focus for his second phase, and deal with the more agile Romeo, adding variety as well as some challenge.
4Manus And Friends
Champion Victor; Lummachio, Leader Of The Bastards; Simon Manus
With the addition of Manus' protégé, Lummachio, intheOvertureDLC, players can now take on this thematic trio of ergo-obsessed Alchemists. Starting with the Alchemists' crowning experiment, the ergo-infused Champion Victor, players progress through Lummachio in his human and ergo-infused forms, and taking on the monstrous form of Simon Manus back-to-back.
This gives players the chance to take revenge on some of those most responsible for Krat’s downfall. Three distinct styles of fight give this trio some variety as well as some challenge.
3Three Raging Beasts
Green Monster Of The Swamp; Tyrannical Predator; Anguished Guardian Of The Ruins
For players who like their giant monster fights, this trio will present a tough test. The Green Monster of the Swamp is a notorious boss from the base game, thanks to his large size and comparatively small arena. The Tyrannical Predator continues this theme, with one of the toughest parts of the fight being staying out of the boss’s snout long enough to see anything. The Anguished Guardian is even larger than these two beasts, but at least players have some room to maneuver in this fight. The visual spectacle of the Guardian makes it a good culmination to this trio of imposing monsters, but it’s no easy fight either.
2The Overture Trio
Veronique, Leader Of The Sweepers; Markiona, Puppeteer Of Death; Arlecchino, The Blood Artist
This trio consists of three of the toughest bosses from theOvertureDLC. Veronique is similar to the stalker fights from the base game, but feels like a culmination of them, presenting some additional challenges. Players who get used to the pace of parrying her hammer can gain the advantage by breaking her weapon, making this a satisfying fight to master. It’s eclipsed in difficulty by the following two fights though.
Markiona is arguably thesecond-toughest boss in the DLC, with her puppet presenting an additional threat as well as her own moveset. The final boss of the DLC, Arlecchino, makes for one of the hardest fights in the game on his own. Pnly players who’ve mastered these DLC bosses will be able to take him after two other tough encounters.
1The Three Strongest
Laxasia The Complete; Nameless Puppet; Arlecchino, The Blood Artist
These three bosses might be the hardest to take on individually inLies of P, depending on a player’s strengths. Laxasia is the easiest of the three, though this boss has stumped plenty of players in the base game. It’s the amount of time players have to spend on the defensive that can get frustrating in this encounter, so getting used to their phases and attack patterns is essential.
The Nameless Puppet is the final boss of the base game, and only loses the title of strongest boss thanks to the newfinal boss of the DLC. Players will need to have mastered the parry system to succeed in this fight. Arlecchino’s second phase will stop even veteran players with this trio. Getting the timing for his more brutal combos is the toughest test in the game, without exception.
