Summary
Although Devil Fruits are the primary power system in theOne Piecestory, it should be noted that there is still a great disparity between them. The powers granted to users upon eating these mysterious objects can range from simply becoming a jacket to becoming a mythical warrior God who can manipulate reality. Although the user’s skill does play a role, the difference in power of some fruits is quite apparent.
As such, the few most powerful Devil Fruits inOne Piecehave been termed ‘God Fruits’ by the fandom, since these powers are contextually the strongest. More than this, their existence has also been hinted at multiple times in the story, most notably withthe reveal of Luffy as the coming of Sun God Nikain the modern world. However, many fans believe that there is a God Fruit that was introduced far earlier on, so let’s see what this can be.
A Look At The Claim
Confirmed God Fruit
Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika - The Sun God Nika Fruit
First Appearance
One Piece, Chapter 1, “Romance Dawn - The Dawn of Adventure”
The very term ‘God Fruit’ has been created by fans and is primarily used to describe the central Devil Fruits in the story. The only one that has been confirmed thus far is Luffy’s Nika fruit, which was always believed to bethe Gomu Gomu no Miuntil the Wano arc. However, the clues to its true nature were always there, as subsequent revisits of the series in arcs such as Skypiea showed that Oda had always set the foundation for such a reveal.
What’s more interesting is that there have been previous mentions of other Gods of theOne Pieceuniverse alongside Nika, such as the Rain God, Forest God, and Earth God, most notably in the Adam Tree mural. Seeing as how the power of Nika is manifested through Luffy’s Devil Fruit, fans have logically made the connection that the other powers are also tied to Devil Fruits that have either been teased or just haven’t been shown before.
Story Arc
Loguetown
Monkey D. Dragon remains one of the franchise’s most elusive and mysterious characters despite being a central figure in the overall plot ofOne Piece. As the leader of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon stands at the forefront of the organization that poses the greatest threat to the rule of the Celestial Dragons and World Government, opting to take the fight to them rather than just living freely in defiance of their rules as pirates do.
On top of this, he is also the son of the greatest Marine in history and the father of the most important pirate of the current era, which has already shot him up the power hierarchy because of his Lineage Factor alone. As such, he is built up as one of the series' most powerful characters and, although currently unconfirmed, is almost assuredly a user of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. With all this in mind, fans are also convinced that Dragon is the user of the Rain God Devil Fruit.
Someday, I promise you, they will all watch as I change the world!
Admittedly, there is very sparse evidence for this, but it ultimately makes sense. Dragon has had very brief appearances throughout the franchise, and even fewer still are those where he showcases his powers, which he has only done once during his introduction on Loguetown. Here, he seemed to be controlling the weather, creating incredibly powerful storms that were able to summon lightning to save Luffy and even blow away Smoker’sentire company of Marines.
Chapter 1138 of the Elbaf arc goes down as one of the most important in the series' history since it more or less confirmed that there are multiple God Fruits which have existed for centuries, a fact that was hinted at first in the Skypiea arc during Noland’s flashback. The nature of the kind of Devil Fruit Dragon has is unclear, since the only God Fruit we have seen is a Mythical Zoan type used by Luffy.
However, fans have remarked that a wind Logia has been missing from the series which would not only give its user the ability to control the weather itself, but would just be incredibly overpowered for theOne Pieceworld. Judging by what Dragon was able to do in the Loguetown arc, many have surmised that he is the user of the Rain God fruit, which is either a Mythical Zoan like Luffy’s or may just be a windLogia that allows Dragon to create powerful stormsthat can ravage entire armies on its own.
In the Final War, the heroes will be up against the most dangerous enemies, with the strongest among them likely taking on the Gorosei. Because of this, fans have theorized that Dragon may just battle St. Marcus Mars due to the similarities that they share, which is something he can likely only achieve victory in if he has the power of a mythical God Fruit. Only time will confirm this theory of Dragon’s God Fruit, but all the evidence is clearly pointing in this direction.
