Summary
A reputable insider has teased a potentially imminent official confirmation ofPlayStation’s rumored June 2025 State of Play presentation. Sony usually hosts a summer livestream to givePlayStationfans a glimpse into which games they can expect for the latter half of the year, and it appears this pattern will soon be repeated.
Back in February, Sony held a State of Play to set the tone for 2025. The broadcast featured notable third-party games likeBorderlands 4,Directive 8020,Hell is Us,Tides of Annihilation, etc., and even snuck in some PlayStation first-party announcements in the form ofDays Gone RemasteredandSaros- the next game fromReturnaldeveloper Housemarque. Then, anotherState of Play was held on April 30, with this one being dedicated toBorderlands 4. However, the question of a larger summer State of Play has been lingering for some time, and it might be answered very soon.
Rumors of a June 2025 State of Playstarted surfacing online a couple of weeks ago, and it now appears that the event could be held in the coming days. Over onResetEra, reliable industry insider Shinobi602 recently hinted at theannouncement of a new State of Play taking place as soon as tomorrow, June 3. Replying to a user who commented “It’s my birthday tomorrow so that’s obviously when [Sony will] announce the [State of Play],” Shinobi602 slyly wrote “Happy birthday” followed by a smile emoji.
PlayStation’s Rumored Summer 2025 State of Play Could Air On or Before June 5
While the statement seems innocuous, it’s worth noting that Shinobi602 doesn’t post often on ResetEra unless it’s to tease an upcoming PlayStation-related announcement, and replying to a comment explicitly mentioning theJune 2025 State of Playseems all the more deliberate too. Moreover, previous State of Play announcements have almost always been made on a Tuesday, followed up by the livestream itself on either Wednesday or Thursday. Judging by this pattern, the upcoming State of Play could be broadcast on either June 4 or June 5, which would give it just enough time to breathe before Summer Game Fest airs this Friday, June 6.
As for what could be shown off during PlayStation’s June State of Play, there are a few heavy hitters in contention.Death Stranding 2: On the Beachis releasing on June 26, so it could receive its final marketing beat in the State of Play. A new trailer for PlayStation’s biggest first-party game of the year -Ghost of Yotei- may also debut during the livestream, andSaros' gameplay reveal might take place there as well. Lastly, therumoredGod of Warside project that’s supposedly launching in 2025could break cover as part of the June State of Play.
