With an open world filled with secrets, fast-paced leveling to be done, and challenging bosses to beat, a lot is going on in an average run ofElden Ring Nightreign. While players have been busy exploring Limveld and taking on the challenge that awaits as night falls, they’ve also been encountering somescreen-tearing issues inElden Ring Nightreign, severely impacting the overall performance of the game. Here’s what’s known about the issue and how players can make their game sessions run a little bit more smoothly until a permanent fix is rolled out by the developers.
What Is Causing the Elden Ring Nightreign Screen Tearing Issues?
While a freezing issue impacting someElden Ring Nightreignplayers has been focused on PC, the stuttering and screen tearing appear to be impacting all platforms. Thissuggests that the game is in need of a patch to improve performance on higher-end PC hardware, and potentially needs to be optimized for consoles, too.
Though not the experience that players would have been hoping for, the fact that it’s impacting a vast majority of players across all platforms does indicate that the problem lies on the development team’s side, and not with a player’s particular setup. That being said, there are some steps that players can take to improve their gameplay experience and alleviate some of the screen tearing issues.
Bandai Namco mentioned in its1.01 patch notes forElden Ring Nightreignthat the patch “aims to improve gameplay and stability.” A further note at the bottom of the page states: “We have confirmed that some PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience frame rate drops. We are currently investigating the cause.”
How to Fix Elden Ring Nightreign Screen Tearing
Currently, there are a couple of options for players to try. Both of these apply to PC players, but only one of them is an option for console players:
Check for Graphics Card Driver Updates
First and foremost, players should make sure their graphics card has the latest drivers installed. This is done by going to the NVIDIA app, selecting the ‘Drivers’ tab on the left sidebar, and checking if an update is available. On AMD, open the app, go to the ‘Home’ screen, and your current driver and any available updates will be listed in the top right corner of the screen.
When the drivers are installed, players may need to restart their PC before trying to loadElden Ring Nightreignagain. Some players have reported that, even with high-end graphics cards, they’re not experiencing any performance issues or screen tearing inElden Ring Nightreign, so checking this option off first is best practice.
In-Game Graphics Settings and Performance Mode
The main piece of advice from Bandai Namco for PC players has been to changein-game graphics settingsfrom the default ‘High’ option to either ‘Medium’ or ‘Low’. It has also been suggested that players lower the resolution of the game in the same settings menu to see if this improves screen tearing. All of these options are found within the game’s Graphics settings tab.
Console players won’t have the option to adjust all of these settings and will instead have the option to switch between a Quality Mode and Performance Mode. Players have reported that the Performance Mode, while not perfect, is an improvement over the Quality Mode, where these framerate, screen tearing, and stuttering issues are more prevalent. This is again done within the in-game settings on both consoles. The PS5 also has a system-level setting for graphics settings, so make sure that this is also set to Performance mode.
If players are still encountering screen tearing issues inElden Ring Nightreignafter trying these options, they will unfortunately need to wait for the development team to release a patch fixing the issue. AsBandai Namco has already stated that it’s aware of the issue, this might arrive sooner rather than later.
