Perhaps unsurprisingly, your first encounter with the Mimic inFNAF: Secret of the Mimiccomes quite early in the story, right after restoring power to the first area and using a Hand Crank to open a gate. Bursting from a wooden crate in an Elephant Costume, the Mimic will stalk you through this central storage area.
FNAF: Secret of the Mimicoffers players several ways of handling patrolling threats, with this area showing off several of them. Lockers are present throughout the area which can be used as convenient hiding spots, standees with speakers can be activated to distract the Mimic with music, and a box of Wind-Up Mice near the security office allows players to deploy distractions in locations of their choosing.
How to Escape The Mimic (First Encounter) in FNAF: Secret of the Mimic
After restoring power and getting a crank from the Inventory system, players will be tasked with heading upstairs to get their Data Diver upgraded. Heading out of the security office, look to your right to find a metal folding gate that can be retracted using the Crank. Once you’ve done this, walk forward a little to meet the Mimic. They make quite the first impression, bursting out of a box in an Elephant suit, but if you don’t move quickly they’ll kill you, so it’s time to book it. I recommend retracing your steps quickly and making a right turn, then another, to hide in a locker.
Wait for the footsteps to grow fainter, indicating that the Mimic isn’t nearby, and then you can use the button on a cutout nearby to make some noise and draw in the Mimic. Return to the locker right after hitting the button, wait for the Mimic to walk past you to reach the cutout, then exit the locker and wrap back around to where the Mimic broke out. Use the Data Diver to open the door and head through to the Main Hallway. Once you make it to the Main Hallway, the Mimic can’t follow you, and you’re safe. (Generally, most rooms/open areas containing an Inventory terminal are safe.)
Other Ways of Escaping the Mimic (First Encounter) in FNAF: Secret of the Mimic
While the method listed above is a quick and easy way to escape the Mimic in this first encounter, there are plenty of other ways to go about it.This section will discuss other effective tactics for this first escape.For example, there’s a box of Wind-Up Mice near the security office, which can be wound up and thrown to distract the Mimic. Be aware that they aren’t thrown very far, so you’ll need to plan carefully and position yourself so you can move away from it without walking into the Mimic.
It’s also important to note that the Mimic can’t pass through any door that requires the Data Diver to open. This means that you can avoid the Mimic by running back to the security office, and then waiting for it to start patrolling before you sneak over to the Main Hallway door. This remains consistent throughout the game, making any Data Diver Door especially helpful.
