The various spells and incantations inElden Ring Nightreignwork a little bit differently from how they did in the originalElden Ring. As such, even the most seasoned Soulsborne fans may find themselves taking a little bit of time to figure out how the mechanics work here.
This guide, will explain everything you need to know abouthow to cast spells inElden Ring Nightreign, and provide examples of what spells can be cast with which weapons.
How to Cast Spells and Incantations in Elden Ring Nightreign
Both spells and incantations can be cast by pressing RB or RT on your Xbox controller when you have a staff or sacred seal equippedin the character’s right hand. If it’s equipped in their left hand, you’ll use LB and LT. The first spell in the list when you select a staff or seal, will be the one you perform with the LB/RB button, while the second on the list is performed with the LT/RT button. The inputs on all platforms are:
PC
PlayStation
Players can equip two staves, or a staff in one hand and a sacred seal in the other, and have four different spells or incantations equipped at any given time. This would require players to use all the button inputs noted above to activate the first and second spells on each weapon, respectively.
It’s worth noting, however, that spells aren’t found around the world inElden Ring Nightreignlike they were in the original game. Instead, every Glintstone Staff or Sacred Seal that players find in the world will come automatically equipped with two spells. The spells themselves don’t have stat requirements, meaning any of theNightfarers inElden Ring Nightreigncan use them. However, a staff or sacred seal itself can have alevel requirement, meaning the truly powerful variants in the game can’t be used immediately in a round.
There is one other way to cast spells, and that’s via the Recluse Nightfarer’s Magic Cocktail ability. This allows them to gain elemental affinity residues from enemies and cast a powerful spell using them with Y+LT on Xbox, Triangle+L2 on PlayStation, and E on PC.

Players should be aware that only Glintstone Staves, or staffs, can be used to cast sorceries or spells inElden Ring Nightreign, while Sacred Seals are used to cast incantations.
