Elden Ring Nightreignconfines much of its combat to the Expeditions, where teams of three Nightfarers journey out into Limveld to fight against the night and its lord. Facing off against countless foes and fighting bosses across the land to gather strength in preparation for a faceoff with a Nightlord. However, one fight is instead accessed from the Roundtable Hold, once you’ve collected the right item and tracked down a certain ghost.
Finding the Night Idol inElden Ring Nightreign, and defeating her in battle, is the only way to unlock the Revenant as a playable Nightfarer. This requires you to purchase a key item from theSmall Jar Bazaar, allowing you to track down a certain ghost in Roundtable Hold. Once you’ve found her, you’ll be pulled into a battle against the Night Idol and her three allies, which are also the three summons available to the Revenant once you unlock her.
Best Characters for Beating the Night Idol in Elden Ring Nightreign
When setting up to fight the Night Idol, it’s important to remember that you’ll be going into the fight at level 6, with the effects of any relics you’ve equipped active as usual. You’ll be stuck with that character’s default weapon, though, so it’s important to pick someone you’ve got a bit of practice with. Excellent picks in terms of survivability and having useful skills for this encounter are Ironeye, Guardian, and Executor.
The Guardian has excellent health and stamina along with a fantastic set of starting gear, while the Executor can make great use of their skill to deflect attacks from the Night Idol’s minions and use their ultimate as an emergency second health bar to sweep through anything still standing once it’s charged. Ironeye’s ranged fighting style makes him perfect for picking off the minions at a safe distance before taking out the boss. This guide will offer strategies for utilizing all three, but you could probably clear this fight with any of the available characters quite easily, with enough attempts.
How to Find the Night Idol Boss in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Night Idol is an unusual boss in Nightreign, since you’ll be fighting it solo and not as part of an Expedition. To trigger the fight, you’ll need to head over to the Small Jar Bazaar after unlocking the Duchess. A new item, the “Besmirched Frame”, can be bought for 1500 Murk. Inspecting the item description will reveal some lore and also hint that you’re able to find its owner somewhere. Sure enough, heading into the hallway next to the character switch point (the hallway that leads to Gideon’s Study in normal Elden Ring) will allow you to find a ghost girl in the corner.
Speaking to her will allow you to warp to the location where the Night Idol can be fought, automatically setting you to level 6 and granting the benefits of any selected relics for your current character. If you lose the fight, you’ll be returned to Roundtable Hold and can speak with her in the same spot to trigger the fight again. There is no penalty for failing, so you can try as many times as you like until you beat the fight and unlock the Revenant as a playable character.
How to Beat Night Idol in Elden Ring Nightreign (Ironeye)
Ironeye probably has the easiest time handling the Night Idol and her minions, since you can just shoot at them from a safe distance, kiting them around the arena while dodging the ranged holy disks the Night Idol throws, and the occasional beams fired by the giant skeleton. Once all three minions are down, you can focus on taking out the Night Idol in the same way.
How to Beat Night Idol in Elden Ring Nightreign (Guardian)
With the Guardian, you’ll want to take out the Night Idol’s Page first, deflecting its blade with your shield before crushing it with Guard Counters from the Halberd. You can then reposition and repeat the process to take out the big guy. Once both are down, lead the Night Idol away from the giant skeleton, then sprint over to fight it. She tends to hang back and throw Rings of Light, giving you the opportunity to finish off the skeleton before turning your focus to the Night Idol herself. She causes frost buildup with her claws, so it’s best to dodge when she uses them and wear her down by two-handing the halberd for more damage.
How to Beat Night Idol in Elden Ring Nightreign (Executor)
When facing the Night Idol as an Executor, you’ll want to begin by taking out the summoned page. It’s the fastest and most mobile of her minions and will cause you the most trouble if it’s left alive too long, so use Unsheathe attacks from the Katana to dive in for big hits and then dodge back out of range of its sword. Once it’s down, handle the big guy and his hammer by using the Cursed Blade to deflect the slow, predictable, strikes before hitting with guard counters and the Cursed Blade special attack once it’s charged. Next, try to lure her away from her giant skeleton, before approaching and taking it out, then focus on finishing off the Night Idol.
Suggested Strategies for Wylder, Raider, Recluse, and Duchess
To finish this fight with the Raider, you’ll want to utilize a lot of the same strategies as those we suggested for the Guardian, taking advantage of the Raider’s Retaliate ability to stun the Night Idol’s allies after blocking their melee attacks. The Wylder performs best by utilizing their Clawshotto outmaneuver her allies and pull them in for greatsword slashes, taking advantage of the low mobility of her larger allies and quickly eliminating the summoned page.
When playing as the Recluse, you’ll want to use a variation of the Ironeye strategy, using her ranged spells to blast away at the Night Idol’s allies and absorbing the affinity residue after her attacks hit to restore her FP. This allows her to keep casting effectively infinitely, as long as she absorbs residue after every few spells, making it possible to take out the Night Idol and her allies even without access to methods of restoring FP. Use Magic Cocktail whenever it charges up to dish out a decent chunk of magic damage too.
Of the available characters,Duchess is one of the trickier ones to beat this fight with. Her default weapon is a magic dagger with a lunging special attack, which is useful for darting in to attack the page, and her double-dodge allows her to retreat to safety and evade attacks very easily. The dagger’s low range is less than ideal when facing a boss that prefers fighting from a distance with incantations, but you may take advantage of the Duchess' excellent dodge mobility and special dodge attacks with the dagger to mitigate this weakness.
