In the starting region, known asHagga Basin, there are a number of smaller Sandworms, although they are just as deadly, and players will only realize they are smaller after seeing their larger counterparts in the Deep Desert.

In theDeep Desert, where there’s plenty of PvP, players will come across thelargest and most aggressive Sandworms, but these will oftenleave behind Spice deposits, meaning experienced players will want to seek them out to reap the rewards.

Understanding The Vibration Lines

When players cross the open dunes, they will notice lines on their screen. Theserepresent the vibrationsthey are making from moving. Stop moving, and the line goes still. If theline turns orange or red, that means a Sandworm is nearby, and as it gets closer, it will be more sensitive to vibrations.

If the line is red and picking up extreme vibrations, it’s alreadytoo late to worry about being detected. At this point, you justneed to get out of there, meaning you must see where the Sandworm is coming from.

Unfortunately, it isnot possible to ride Sandworms inDune: Awakening​​, even though this is possible in the lore. If you attempt to do so, you will be eaten. While there are no guarantees, the developers have not ruled out such a feature down the line,

How To Avoid Sandworms In Dune: Awakening?

The main way toavoid Sandworms inDune: Awakeningis tostick to rocky outcropswhere possible. Always look for the shortest path across the dunes, and plan ahead.Do not waste movement abilitieswhen you don’t have to; instead, save them for when a Sandworm gets close.

If you have to cross the dunes on foot,run the first half, and if the vibrations turn red, use theBene Gesserit Bindu Sprint skillor the Trooper’s Shigawire Claw toreach safety quickly. Don’t use these abilities first, as you’ll then be stranded for themore dangerous second half of the journey.

Dying to a Sandworm inDune: Awakeningis easily one of the worst things that can happen to you, as you willlose all of your current equipment, anything in yourbackpack, and a vehicle if you were driving one. This is muchworse than normal deaths. You will thenrespawn at the Respawn Beaconyou placed down or a checkpoint.

However, there is one upside to being eaten by a Sandworm. Players willgain a Worm Tooth, which can be used to craft an unfixed crysknife.
