Summary

Grand Theft Auto 6continues to loom large over the gaming industry, and with the latest trailer and updates, Rockstar Games has succeeded in keeping the hype train going even though fans have been waiting well over 10 years for a new entry.Grand Theft Auto 6will no doubt be the talk of the town when it releases, and now that some more information has been revealed, fans are more eager than ever to see what the latest iteration of the studio’s landmark open-world crime franchise will offer.

Of course,Grand Theft Auto 6being delayed to 2026earlier this year was a notable event in and of itself, but it was also a move that didn’t necessarily come as a big surprise, as disappointing as it may be. As the wait continues, there is a lot of speculation about how it will bring the series into the future, and one way would be to lean into one ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s more well-known segments for a more fully fleshed-out feature.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s extended epilogue sees John Marston set about constructing a house from scratch for his son Jack and wife Abigail, “assisted” by the ever-loyal Uncle, at least at the times when his “lumbago” isn’t preventing him from doing so. While this portion has become somewhat of a parodied meme, as admittedly it dragged on a bit and could be tedious at times, it still served as a connecting narrative bridge that leads into theevents of the firstRed Dead Redemptionwhile giving fans a taste of something more like a building sim. This could be further expanded on inGrand Theft Auto 6to give players more control over designing and customizing multiple properties.

How Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Transform RDR2’s House Building Section into a Full-Blown Activity

Rockstar is well-known for includingincredibly robust and realistic mechanics, even for elements that aren’t necessarily the main focus of the rest of the experience and may be missed or passed over by some players. With the level of detail its games often contain along with the expected massive world, though,GTA6can easily takeRed Dead Redemption 2’s home building as a blueprint and place creativity more firmly in the players' hands in terms of building and outfitting various potential homes.

GTA5 Onlinealso already features a number of apartments for players to acquire and decorate, albeit in a more limited capacity.

Grand Theft Auto 6could thus iterate onRDR2’s house-building “montage” by letting fans fully design their own digs from the ground up and deck them out in a range of styles. This would be similar to thesafehouses that fans could unlock in priorGTAtitles, but with a much wider selection of items like furniture and other decorations available to personalize them. Jason and Lucia could potentially have a separate suite of properties that can be tailored to their personalities as well, and possibly also offer a more extensive range of additional rewards and extras in the form of unique weapons or outfits.

With everything else that it will be putting intoGrand Theft Auto 6,Rockstar could go all-out with aSims-like system, or if not to that level of complexity, perhaps something along the lines ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows' base-building, as a good recent example. In any case, including a rounded-out house-building feature and associated options inGTA6based onRed Dead Redemption 2’s seems almost a natural extension of the studio’s design philosophy that aims to offer a high level of detail and ways for players to immerse themselves more deeply in the world and characters.
