Summary

IO Interactive isn’t done supportingHitman: World of Assassination, with a company official recently teasing some additional updates that are planned to reach the game in the foreseeable future. As things stand right now,Hitman: World of Assassinationis on the verge of enjoying over a decade’s worth of support.

The first entry in IO Interactive’sHitmanreboot trilogy was released in an episodic format over the course of 2016. The Danish studio followed up on that title withHitman 2andHitman 3, launched in 2018 and 2021, respectively. In 2023,all three installments were combined intoHitman: World of Assassination. Throughout this period and beyond, IO Interactive has been supporting its games with Elusive Targets, Escalation Contracts, and seasonal events, among other types of (often limited-time) content.

This practice will continue for a while yet, according to IOI Senior Level Designer Martin Ansdal. Speaking toPCGamesNduring the 2025 edition of Summer Game Fest, the studio official confirmed thatHitman: World of Assassination’s newly launchedJames Bondcrossover—which allows players to assassinate Mads Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre—won’t be the game’s final celebrity cameo event. “I don’t have any plans to downscale my ambitions,” Ansdal said of the game’s future content drops, albeit without going into Any details on what those will entail.

Hitman: World of Assassination Is Getting a Co-Op Mode

In the meantime, IOI has already confirmed that one of the upcomingHitman: World of Assassinationupdateswill offer something a bit different from its usual content, expanding the game with a co-op mode. Not accounting forHitman: Sniper Assassin, this addition will mark a first for the long-running series. IOI’s presentation showed a glimpse of an example level with Andrea “Knight” Morgan and Derrick “Stone” Powel, two ICA snipers who were previously playable inHitman 2: Sniper Assassin. The co-op mode is still at an early stage of development and hence doesn’t yet have a firm release window that it’s targeting.

Between the new co-op mode and additional celebrity cameos,Hitman: World of Assassinationseems poised to keep receiving updates in the foreseeable future. This reassurance of continued support gives additional context to IOI’sdecision to put theHitmanfranchise on a hiatus, which the company originally announced in early 2023. With post-launch content showing no signs of slowing down,Hitmanmay not need a new game to stay relevant, at least for the time being.
