Summary
HBO’sHarry Potteradaptation has the opportunity to fill a lot of the gaps that the film series left from JK Rowling’s books when it launches in early 2027. Each book will be getting a full season each, and the extra time that will come with that should lead to characters being explored in more detail and storylines that had been left out getting the chance to shine.
The Weasley family is one of the most memorable in theHarry Potterstory, and they received a lot of attention in the movies. However, one member of the Weasley family, in particular, should be given a larger focus by HBO due to how influential his personal story is.
Percy Weasley Should Be Given More Focus In HBO’s Harry Potter
His Story Isn’t Focused On During The Harry Potter Movies
The Weasley family might get a lot of focus throughout the Harry Potter movies, but in truth, only Ron, Fred, and George Weasley are given the right amount of focus to explore who they truly are. Ginny, Arthur, and Molly Weasley showcased a lot, but the films could’ve done more with them, while Bill and Charlie Weasley don’t get anywhere near enough limelight. However, out of the entire family, Percy Weasley should be focused on ingreater detail throughout HBO’sHarry Potteradaptation. He’s a brilliant character whose story is extremely complex and layered, offering HBO something to pursue that the films neglected.
Percy is only showcased in a smalldetail in theHarry Pottermovies. He typically appears as part of a larger scene, and while it’s established within Hogwarts that he’s a teacher’s pet who is always looking to follow the rules and prove he’s the best, the films don’t really explore his life beyond that. It’s a missed opportunity because there is a lot more to Percy than meets the eye, and those who haven’t read the books won’t have any idea about all of the details his character has.
Percy Weasley’s Story Is A Lot More Detailed In The Harry Potter Books Than The Film Series
Percy Helps To Bridge The Gap Between Both Sides Of The Harry Potter Story
Within theHarry Potterbooks, Percy’s life is covered beyond Hogwarts. He goes on to work for the Ministry of Magic, and the books often use Percy to showcase what is happening within that particular world. His story is quite emotional because while he’s desperate to climb the ranks in his career to become what he believes is successful, he becomes numb to theatrocities of the Ministry. He doesn’t care about the fact that the Ministry runs a smear campaign against Harry and Albus Dumbledore and instead focuses on his ambition and the fact that he becomes the Junior Assistant to Cornelius Fudge. While the rest of his family sides with Harry, Percy goes in the opposite direction, creating a massive rift between them.Percy disowns his family at one point, which is one of the most shocking and emotional moments inHarry Potter, and that’s why his character needs to be focused on beyond just being the snobbish Head Boy of Hogwarts.
TheHarry Pottermovies focused on telling the story from Harry’s perspective, which was enjoyable. But the books can look at the overall tale from multiple perspectives, and via Percy, readers can get a greaterglimpse into the Ministry of Magicto see how they’re operating and how blind Percy becomes to everything. It’s a great insight into how even wise wizards from good families can be dragged into the darkness, proving the power of that side of the larger wizarding war.
HBO’s Harry Potter Pushing Percy Weasley Will Make The Show Feel Unique
HBO Would Be Able To Build Another Harry Potter Hero
One of the benefits of focusing on Percy Weasley would be that it would make HBO’sHarry Potterfeel unique from the movies. That will be crucial for HBO’s version to have any form of long-term success because, as popular as this story is, fans will want something new to make them feel like the show is worth their investment. The benefit of extra time that HBO is going to have to open up theHarry Potterstory willallow the television show to thriveand feel different from the movies, giving people a reason to view it. Percy’s storyline is ideal for a television format because it develops and becomes more serious as the story progresses, providing an emotional hook as each season progresses.
Focusing on Percy’s storyline would be interesting, as it would allow HBO to create another hero if it was done right. Seeing him slip into the darkness of the wizarding world would be a brilliant plot to run throughout the entire show, and seeing theimpact it has on all of the Weasleyswould enhance the whole family, particularly Molly. However, it would also open up HBO with the opportunity to create a new hero for the franchise because he eventually comes back to his family. Percy returns during the Battle of Hogwarts, seeing the errors of his ways, to fight alongside the Weasleys. That, in itself, could be a compelling scene if it is done right, and it would help HBO’sHarry Potterstand out.
