Summary
On top of music, anime, and manhwa, South Korea’s also been catching on in gaming.Lies of Pcombined the folk tale of Pinocchio with Soulslike gameplay, which has been spiced up recently with itsOvertureDLC. But the country also had players who preferred faster hack & slash action covered with the sci-fi swashbuckling gameplay ofStellar Blade.
It plays pretty well too, akin toNieR: Automatawith its dour plot, post-apocalyptic worlds, and sex appeal. The game even lets players dress up its heroine, Eve, in all sorts of outfits, from full-body coverage to ones that are basically lingerie. But even if the dress-up was just for titillation, some costumes are harder to get than others. If players want Eve in these outfits, they’re going to have to work for it.
1Air Ace
Jumping Off the Deck and Shoving into Overdrive
Each outfit comes with a bit of blurb that explains its design and history. For theAir Ace, it seems to have been a failed attempt by Tetrastar C&T to make aviator jackets catch on. They’re infused with data gathered from many top guns with the best augmented reality tech they could offer, but in-game, it’s merely a cosmetic for people who want Eve to look (kind of) like a pilot.
Players just need to take on the Encounter side mission in New Game+, where they’ll take on the Behemoth in the Great Desert. To start the mission, they’ll have to talk to Kaya at Sister’s Junk, which was rendered impossible thanks to a bug interfering with its prompt. Luckily, it’s since been patched, so players today should be able to get it without much trouble. So long as their copy is up to date at any rate.
2Wandering Swordfighter
Might Require Divine Intervention to Obtain
TheWandering Swordfighteroutfit says it’s too lightweight to provide much defense. Luckily, all the outfits in the game are purely cosmetic. So long as players have good Gear, Exospines, etc., players can doll Eve up in thisHarajuku Raiden-looking fitwithout anything to worry about. Though they’d still need to know their way in a fight, as it originally belonged to Scarlet, the boss of the game’s new piece of DLC.
Made to crossover with Shift Up’s other IP,Goddess of Victory: Nikke, players need to beat her in Boss Challenge mode on Normal difficulty or higher. She’s tricky enough on Normal, as she’s fast with her sword swipes, and can produce illusionary clones that players have to parry. If their deflection game isn’t on point, they won’t be able to stun Scarlet long enough to punish her, or avoid her instant kill move in phase 2.
3Royal Guard Suit
Beat Mann to Be the Man
The description of theRoyal Guard Suitisn’t coy when it talks about the “qualifications” needed to obtain it. To dress as a member of the Xion Female Guard, players need to head back into Boss Challenge mode, where they’ll get a unique boss that they can’t fight in the main game: Mann. Beat him on Normal or a higher difficulty, and the Royal Guard Suit is theirs.
It’s a task that’s easier said than done, as while Mann isn’t the fastest fighter in the game, he’s one of the more unpredictable ones. He can go from swinging one sword to swiping two in one combo. His slow, giant battleaxe can suddenly become a nimble polearm, and he’ll pull out a gun, among other attacks, to catch opponents unaware. His ground throw is also an instant kill on higher difficulties, so players who just want the outfit might want to stick to Normal mode.
4Neurolink Suit
Business Up Front, Party at the Back
Not to be confused with the skimpier Neurolink Skin, theNeurolink Suitcovers more skin at the front, only to be largely backless. It was made as part of Tetrastar C&T’s “Ubiquitous” Collection, according to the blurb, and treated as nothing more than a “plugsuit” after the company ousted “Galaxy” Alan. Though it doesn’t really resemblethe other, more famous plugsuitsfrom a certain other franchise.
To get it, players have to beat every boss in Boss Challenge mode on Normal or a higher difficulty setting. It only counts bosses from the main campaign, so they don’t have to worry about Mann or Scarlet. They just have to worry about Tachy, Stalker, Juggernaut, Raven, and the Elder Naytiba, among the other 14 bosses from the main story. So, players better have a good build in mind to meet the challenge.
5Black Pearl Nano Suit
The Thirst Quencher
Taking on hard bosses can be testing and may take some players hours to get. It can be a real test of a player’s nerves. The Black Pearl Nano Suitjust tests their patience, as they have to collect every can in the game to get it. It’s not as difficult on paper, though it can potentially take longer for players to get it, as they’ll have to scour every corner of the game’s map and locations to get them.
It’s enough to trigger bad memories of theRiddler Trophies in theArkhamgames. But it’s all worth it to dress Eve up in what’s essentially just underwear. With its lace patterns, sheer netting, and stockings, she’s more ready to model for Ann Summers than battle the Elder Naytiba. Still, if players want some eye candy to go with their gameplay, they’ll have to complete their can collections.
6Ocean Maid
Get Ready for the Summer by Fishing
TheOcean Maidisn’t the skimpiest outfit in the game, though it doesn’t leave much to the imagination either. It’s a one-piece swimsuit that’s a few cuts away from being a bikini. So it would still get the player some looks if their friends or whoever else came in to watch them play at the wrong time, and they always tend to come in at the wrong times, too.
Getting it combines the tedium of can-collecting with the wonders of RNG, as players have to get every fishin the fishing minigame. Which requires going to different fishing spots across the game, hooking up different kinds of bait, from Small Shrimp to Special Bait, and a lot of waiting until they get a bite, while hoping they haven’t caught one they’ve already caught before. Even with an FAQ, it can be annoying.
7Cyber Illusionist
Getting This Green Outfit Will Leave Players Seeing Red
The Cyber Magician outfit can be obtained by completing a pressure pad puzzle in the Wasteland’s northern area, which is simple enough. But what if players wanted it in green with gold and yellow touches? That’s what theCyber Illusionistoutfit offers over its otherwise black and white Magician counterpart. If only it could also be found hanging around somewhere. Instead, players have to beat Raven in Boss Challenge mode on Hard difficulty to get it.
She’s one ofthe hardest bosses in the game, if not one of the hardest in gaming in general, thanks to her instant transmission-esque slashes, lightning beam setups, and a beam attack that they must interrupt to avoid getting killed instantly. On Normal, these attacks are more obvious and easier to block, but on Hard, players will need eyes as sharp as their blade to stay on top of her, or they’ll get finished off.
