A Pretty Box with Plenty of Protective Packaging

You won’t have to worry about dings or dents during delivery here.

Upon opening up the Govee Gaming Pixel Light,I found all the contents secured firmly within a foam casing. The display (available in either 52 x 32 or 32 x 32) comes with an outer film for further protection from accidental blemishes. There’s even padding built into the top of the box for added security.

The package comes with the Pixel Light itself, as well as a wall-mount bracket and desktop stand. Users have the ability to place the Pixel Light essentially wherever they’d like. However, you are tethered by the device’s adapter and cord, which need to remain plugged in at all times.

A High Quality Design and Feel

This isn’t a kid’s toy - but it probably could be!

As you go hands-on with the Govee Gaming Pixel Light, you immediately recognize that this isn’t some mere kid’s toy. It’s not heavy, but there is heft to the product that makes it feel well-built. Its exterior shell is designed to look like stainless steel. It isn’t, but it still feels solid enough to hold up to random drops.

Once you plug the Gaming Pixel Light in,you’re immediately greeted with its personality. You’ll quickly be introduced to its bright LED screen and 8-bit style sound capabilities. Certain images or animations will look better on the 52 x 32 model, but both run graphics at a smooth 30 FPS. But you’ll need to dive into the Govee Home App to really delve into the device’s deep set of customization options.

Utilizing Govee Home for Functionality and Design

Master Govee Home and design your heart out.

When you’re ready to start designing the Govee Pixel Gaming Light to your liking, you’ll need to download the Govee Home app through either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. It’s a free download on both storefronts. After you’ve established an account on Govee Home, it only takes a few minutes to have your Pixel Gaming Light synced and ready to interact.

The Display and Music settings.

It’s a lot to take in at first, as there’s so much that Govee Home is capable of, but the app does a fantastic job of walking you through various aspects of what it and Pixel Gaming Light can do in tandem. At the most basic level is the Display setting. Here, you can set the device to display your local time and weather. You can utilize it as an alarm, timer, or stopwatch. But you can also sync it up with various widgets to continually update and show financial data, as well as NBA and NFL schedules and statistics, and more.

I’m far from an artist, but I was able to quickly throw together and display an appreciative message for my wife that put a smile on her face.

If you’re having friends over or just want Govee’s Gaming Light to help you vibe, you may place the device into music mode. Here, you can select from 10 different design choices that will react dynamically to the music. There’s even a sensitivity meter that will affect how much sound influences your screen’s display.

Make your own designs with Finger Sketch.

If there’s something specific you’d like to create for your Govee Pixel Gaming Light to showcase, you can design it yourself right within Govee Home. Right from your smart device, you’ll have a whole suite of design options. It’s probably easier to use something larger than a smartphone to get a reliable canvas, but if you’re looking for something quick, my finger and iPhone did just fine.

I’m far from an artist, but I was able to quickly throw together and display an appreciative message for my wife that put a smile on her face. It would certainly be easy enough to make designs for the various holidays to keep it festive. Or, someone could do it for you…

AI capabilities and the Share Space

One of the first rabbit holes I went down with Govee Home was its Share Space channel. Here, creations that other users have crafted can be uploaded so that you can use them on your Govee device. This feature is still in its infancy, with only a few dozen GIFs available for selection. There’s already some quality stuff here, though.I found fun animations that look great on the Pixel Gaming Light. There were selections fromSuper Mario Bros.,Star Wars,The Legend of Zelda,Sonic the Hedgehog, and more that worked well. However, there are plenty of others that just looked muddled and blurry when they made the hop over to my Pixel Gaming Light.

For users (like me) who lack any real artistic ability,Govee Home has a pretty advanced AI feature that will craft a design based on your specifications. It will also give recommended lighting settings and effects to help you experiment with your setup. I tasked the AI with creating an image of Link holding the Triforce fromThe Legend of Zelda. The image generated was a GIF, but it got the job done outside of that.

Is it Worth it for Your Gaming Setup?

In short, I came away very impressed with the Govee Pixel Gaming Light. It’s a high-quality design with a ton of tech built in. At its most basic, it makes for an awesome accessory that can bring unique art into your gaming space, bedroom, or office. However, with how deep you can dive into the Govee Home app, customization of your screen seems nearly limitless. Whether it’s your favorite games, sports teams, or scenic shots, it’s all possible on your wall or tabletop.

The Govee Pixel Gaming Light does not have a battery. It must be plugged in at all times. So if you plan to hang it on your wall, consider options to hide the cord.

On top of that, the Pixel Gaming Light works with Govee’s proprietary DreamView tech that syncs all their products together for a superior gaming or television experience. It’s fully compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, Matter, and IFTTT. Wall installation is fast and simple if that’s your display of choice. And perhaps most importantly, the LED screen is crisp and the 8-bit sounds are clear.
