Summary

As Sucker Punch’sGhost of Yotei’s Fall 2025 launch draws nearer, the developer has continuously offered up more bits and pieces of information about its story, which sees Atsu seeking a group currently known as the “Yotei Six,” who razed her homestead and killed her family when she was a child. Naturally, the incident set Atsu on a revenge path to eliminate each member of the Yotei Six inGhost of Yoteiand thereby pay them recompense for the harm that was inflicted upon her and the tragic death of her parents.

Based on what has been revealed so far, it seems that Atsu will meet a wolf along the way who will become a companion that travels by her side. Ceratin scenes fromGhost of Yotei’s trailersshow the wolf clearly assisting Atsu in combat, but that seemed like a given from the wolf’s first reveal. However, with Atsu tracking down the group who murdered her family and destroyed her home, the wolf could have other uses as well, and it could derive inspiration for that from none other thanKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Mutt.

Ghost of Yotei’s Wolf Could Do More Than Help in Combat

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Mutt Sets the Standard for Companion Utility

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2has a vast array of different systems for players to utilize as they make their way through its faithful recreation of medieval Bohemia, but the way it handles Henry’s animal friend Mutt sets a new standard for companion utility. When playersget Mutt inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2, they’ll quickly discover that he can be used for more than just combat, as he comes equipped with a unique tracking ability that can help players complete certain quests quicker and more efficiently.

To starttracking with Mutt inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2, players simply need to find a scented item associated with that person or thing and then give it to Mutt for him to smell. Once Mutt has acquired a scent for who or what players need to track down, they can stay close and observe his behavior, and he may eventually lead them to their next quest objective.

While it’s not necessary for players to use Mutt during thesequests inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2where his tracking abilities can come in handy, it still not only makes those objectives much easier to complete, but it also makes completing them a more immersive experience. Rather than Mutt merely being a passive animal companion who offers his assistance in combat, players can seamlessly weave him into the questing experience, so long as those quests have items applicable to his tracking abilities.

A Tracking Mechanic for the Wolf Would Help Atsu Hunt Down the Yotei Six

Sure,Ghost of Yoteicould very easily just give players objective markers or theGuiding Windto follow as they track down members of the Yotei Six inGhost of Yotei, but with a wolf at Atsu’s side, there’s an opportunity there for it to explore mechanics similar toKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Mutt.Ghost of Yotei, like its predecessor, likely aims to offer an experience that is as immersive as possible, and making Atsu’s wolf companion a part of her quest to track down the Yotei Six would only reinforce that immersion.

The announcement trailer forGhost of Yoteiseems to show the wolf guiding Atsu, so it’s possible mechanics like this have already been implemented.

Perhaps, as they progress throughGhost of Yotei’s story, players find remnants of the Yotei Six’s clothing or an old weapon they discarded that the wolf can then use as a means of tracking each member of the group. Of course, this would presumably accompany mechanics that see Atsu gathering information from other quests she completes and NPCs she speaks with, but a Mutt-like tracking ability for her wolf companion would arguably be a nice touch on top of all of that. The blueprint is there if Sucker Punch is willing to pull the trigger, but time will tell.
