In the near future, The Coalition will soon bring players back into Sera’s past with the upcoming releases ofGears of War: ReloadedandGears of War: E-Day. Reloaded will introduce PlayStation audiences to the world ofGears of Warthis August via a remaster ofGears of War: Ultimate Edition, which itself is a remaster of 2006’sGears of War 1. A release window forGears of War: E-Dayis currently unknown, but it’s expected that more information onE-Daywill be announced at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase or somewhere else in the near future as theGearsfranchise nears its 20th anniversary in 2026.
WhileReloadedwill allow players to reliveGears of War 1and Delta Squad’s battle againstLocust General RAAM,E-Daywill have players journey back 14 years before the Lightmass Offensive to witness the very beginning of the Locust War in an event known as Emergence Day. Here, gamers will play as a younger Marcus Fenix and a younger Dominic Santiago as they and the overall COG struggle to confront the Locust Horde and their monstrous Hollow creatures. WithE-Daybeing the earliest prequelGearsgame in the franchise to date, many characters from modernGearstitles will likely be absent from the game, but there are still several fan-favorite charactersGearscould end up inE-Day’s campaign.

Which Characters Should Return in Gears of War: E-Day
Possible Returning COG Troops in E-Day
Being a prequel, it’s unlikely that characters Fenix and Santiago haven’t met directly until the events of the originalGears of Wartrilogy will appear inE-Day. However, this does still leave room for other COG characters to pop up, even if it’s only briefly inE-Day. For example, Colonel Victor Hoffman, Chairman Richard Prescott, and Anya Stroud will likely appear in some manner inE-Day,given their prominent roles in theCOG military. Several fan-favorite COG troops could additionally appear in various forms inE-Daysuch as:
Tai Caliso is known to have served alongside Fenix early on in the war, so his appearance inE-Daywould make sense and help set up theorigins of the Mark 2 Lancer Assault Rifle.
Possible Returning Locust in E-Day
According to The Coalition,E-Daywill have the Locust appear as horrifying “living nightmares," especially compared to how players quickly became accustomed to Locust Drones as simple cannon fodder in the originalGearstrilogy. With this concept in mind, the Locust may not appear in major villainous roles but instead appear as simply animalistic monsters sowing chaos throughout Sera. However, this new horrifying perspective of the Locust could still have some iconicLocust leaders appear inE-Day,such as Skorge and RAAM, the latter of which led the initial invasion of the surface on Emergence Day. While Fenix and Santiago may not confront these two Locust leaders directly, they could still view their carnage from afar or witness them slaying a few of their allies.
Potential Gears Book Characters in E-Day
Since Emergence Day has seldom been depicted inGearsgames, most of what is known about the early days of the Locust War is fromGears’expanded media, primarily novels and comics.Gears of War: E-Daycould then prove to be the perfect opportunity for some book-exclusive characters to make their grand debut in aGearscampaign for the first time. For example, ifE-Daydoes showcase some parts of the Pendulum Wars, Carlos Santiago could appear as an inspiration for Fenix and a catalyst for Fenix’s future friendship with Carlos’ younger brother Dominic. Similarly,E-Daycould have Locust General Sraak as an antagonist, as he perished shortly afterEmergence Day’s initial invasionat the First Battle of Jannermont.
Most prominentGears of Warcharacters will likely appear inGears of War: E-Day’s multiplayer, similar to how long-deceased characters appeared inGears 5’ multiplayer, but most of them likely won’t appear in E-Day’s main campaign.
