Tifa debuted inFinal Fantasy 7as one of the playable party members. She was a bartender at Seventh Heaven who also helped stop Shinra from destroying the planetvia AVALANCHE attacks. She was also the childhood crush of Cloud, the protagonist, and quickly after the game’s release, Tifa became a crush of many a gamer.
There are two very big reasons why. Tifa received a few costume changes inFinal Fantasy 7and through sequels, spinoffs, and remakes, Tifa got even more. Let’s go through them and rank them all by their fashion sense.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthfeatured a more in-depth disguise segment whenplayers infiltrated Junon. In the original game, only Cloud dressed up like a soldier but Aerith and Tifa join him in the remake.
Together, they have to get into Rufus’ parade to ask him some questions about Sephiroth if they win a contest. While it’s not a cute design for Tifa, she makes the fit work, as does Aerith. Even with the helmet on, it can look convincing.
7Cowgirl (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth)
A Tour Guide Like No Other
The original game had a flashback in Nibelheim wherein Tifa was shown dressed as a cowgirl. The design was hard to read on the PS1 but it’s more fully developed inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It doesn’t make sense why the tour guide system in Nibelheim would design itself around cowboys since the town is located in the mountains far away from farmland.
Regardless of the sensibility, Tifa looks good in all brown like she is ready to mounta Chocobo or twoand ride off into the sunset.
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisisisa free-to-play mobile gamethat is currently retelling the entirety of theFinal Fantasy 7 Compilationone chapter at a time between all of its games. Players can get costumes, or Garbs, for their characters and the Bahamut Suit is one for Tifa.
She looks ready to jump into a mech akin to an Eva unit fromNeon Genesis Evangelionin that attire. It’s a bit silly and overly dramatic, but it’s hard to deny Tifa’s fashion in it. The Bunny Bustier and Armor of the Worthy are two other animal-infused Garbs.
In the original game, there is a section that offers players the opportunity to dress Cloud up as a girl. Aerith and Tifa get new dresses in this section too but they are all hard to see on PS1. The dress-up mechanic for all three characters was expanded inFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.
Tifa can wear one of three dresses with the Exotic Dress standing out the most for its fun design. It looks like it came fromWutai, Yuffie’s home nation, which is to say it looks inspired by Japanese kimonos.
4Shining Spirit (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth)
Beach Bummin'
Costa del Sol was barely a relevant location in the original game but like most things inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, its importance ballooned. Most characters can get a few beach-themed costume changes in town and players can choose between the Shining Spirit or Majestic Glamour for Tifa.
The former is a modern-style bikini while the latter makes Tifa look like a pit-stop girl, which isn’t bad. Another bikini costume in the series can be found inFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisiscalled Passion Mermaid which is a bit too over the top. This makes the Shining Spirit Tifa’s most sensible swimwear in the series.
3Amarant’s Guise (Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis)
A Homage To Final Fantasy 9
One of the best things aboutFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisiscostumes is that some are direct callbacks to character outfits from other games. For example, Tifa can dress up asSabin fromFinal Fantasy 6or she can look more like Amarant fromFinal Fantasy 9.
Both characters work for Tifa as they are also martial artists in their respective games. Between Sabin’s Style and Amarant’s Guise, the latter pick looks better on Tifa and less gaudy because Sabin’s Style is a wild whirlwind of colors.
Tifa got an updated outfit for her firstbig movie,Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. She ditched the gauntlets and used gloves instead, put on a more sensible vest, longer shorts, and sort of had a cape going on but just with her midriff.
Her design is similar to Cloud’s reimagining that also put him all in black, making the two look like the perfect pair. This design was reused inKingdom Hearts 2for Tifa’s model which is a bit downplayed but still great.
1Updated OG Style (Final Fantasy 7 Remake)
Why Mess With Perfection?
It’s hard to argue against the original design of Tifa since it was so risqué for an RPG hero, which is why a lot of fans were into her.Final Fantasy 7 Remakeupdated her look enough to brighten up the details. She was given stockings, for example, so she showed less skin, while not restraining her flexibility in battle.
Her gauntlet redesigns are probably the best new bit on her body, making it clear her fists were ones forged in iron.
