Summary
One of the new pieces of headgear coming toFinal Fantasy 14in Patch 7.25 will not appear on Viera or Hrothgar player characters, according to screenshots from Square Enix. The screenshots were scrutinized byFinal Fantasy 14players on social media, with some expressing both disappointment and criticism at Square Enix for the apparent decision.
Final Fantasy 14’s 7.25 update will go live on Tuesday, May 27, after a brief period of server maintenance. Patch 7.25 will introduce the Mamool Ja allied society quests for Gatherers, along with the next chapter of the fan-favorite Hildibrand quest series. However, the main attraction of Patch 7.25 is the long-awaited Occult Crescent field operation, which can be accessed after reaching level 100 and completingDawntrail’s main story. Players will travel to the South Horn of this mysterious island, level up new Phantom Jobs and relic weapons, and uncover the mysteries behindsome ofFinal Fantasy 14’s extinct civilizationsthat took part in the War of the Magi.
Although Patch 7.25 will include various rewards for players to earn from the Occult Crescent, one item is already proving contentious withFinal Fantasy 14players. AfterSquare Enix released new screenshotsof the Occult Crescent, r/ffxiv subreddit user SunChaoJun pointed out that the Berserker’s helmet is invisible when worn by a Hrothgar player character, and simultaneously visible on other player character races like the Lalafell.
Final Fantasy 14’s Upcoming Berserker Helmet Is Invisible on Viera and Hrothgar Characters
While allFinal Fantasy 14player characters can equip headgear for the sake of statistical balance, the leonine Hrothgar and the rabbit-eared Viera player character races have a long-standing issue of not being able to “wear” hats and helmets due to character model complications. This issue with the Berserker’s helmet is more perplexing, considering thatPatch 7.21’s Cosmic Exploration included the Cosmosuit Helm, a space helmet that the Viera and the Hrothgar can wear with customized ear slots.
However, the Berserker helmet is not the only itemFinal Fantasy 14players have criticized on social media. Following the reveal ofnew features coming toFinal Fantasy 14 Mobile, including 16 dye channels, players criticized Square Enix for not including similar quality-of-life updates in the PC and desktop versions ofFinal Fantasy 14.
Between the continued frustrations with headgear on the Viera and the Hrothgar, and thelooming return of automatic housing demolitions,Final Fantasy 14players have not shied away from their recent critiques. It remains to be seen what Square Enix will do to address these longstanding issues in future updates.
