Summary
Dune: Awakeninghas been a huge success, with many players being hooked into the gameplay loop of surviving and exploring Arrakis. Nevertheless, with so much going on in the vast open world and up to 60 players inhabiting each sietch, there have naturally been a few early hiccups or hilarious bugs, which have mostly been fixed by frequent patches.
Looking forward, however, fans should be excited for larger updates, including DLC, which they may already own if they bought theUltimate or Deluxe editions. There are also a number of features that players would like to see incorporated inDune: Awakening, even if they are just quality-of-life additions.
7An Offline Mode
No PvP Or Lag
Dune: Awakening, being an MMO with PvP, even if it is limited, is likely what puts off players most. The persistent online state of the game can also be bad for those with an unreliable internet connection. It would therefore be great to see a purely offline mode introduced, with players able to inhabit Arrakis entirely by themselves.
While offline players would miss out onthe Laandsrad and siding with House Atreides or Harkonnen, and some other features, the game is perfectly enjoyable as a survival game, and players should be able to experience Arrakis in the manner they wish.
6A More Dynamic HUD Or Options To Customize The UI
Currently, There Is Too Much UI Covering The Beauty Of Arrakis
Arrakis is beautiful inDune: Awakening, and the game has an incredible atmosphere, but unfortunately, the HUD takes up too much of the screen. While it is possible to press F6 and remove the entire HUD, this will also mean that menus no longer work, and players will miss vital updates.
A great solution would be adynamic HUD, similar to how the bars for health, stamina, and energy are only displayed if they are low or the player is in action. Certain controls are also displayed on screen, which is great when learning the game, but after using a Cutterray 1000 times, it’s no longer necessary to see the hotkeys. Aside from a dynamic HUD, it would be great for players to be able to customize how much UI is shown. The objectives, for example, don’t need to be shown all the time, and take up too much space.
5More Slots For Tools, Weapons, & Consumables
It Can Be Annoying Constantly Switching Out Tools Manually
Players can have 8 tools, weapons, or consumables equipped at once, with these being accessed via 1-8 on the Keyboard or with aloadout wheel on the controller. However, with players often carrying a melee weapon, a gun, and healkits, this leaves only 5 spaces for a vast array of tools needed to survive on Arrakis.
For example, players will want to carry a Cutterray, a Blood Extractor, a Dew Reaper, a Construction Tool, a Welding Torch, a Vehicle Backup Tool, a Static Compactor, a Literjon, and possibly others too, such as Binoculars. All of this results in players constantly having to switch out tools in the inventory, rather than pressing a hotkey. Adding more slots for tools would thus be a great quality-of-life improvement inDune: Awakening.
4Melee Combos & Possibly Assassinations
Repetitive Stabbing Between Abilities Can Get Boring
Dune: Awakeninghas many exciting Abilities, and the shield system feels pretty great, especially as this was a tricky part of the lore to navigate when turning it into a game. However, when players are fighting unshielded enemies at close range, they may end up repeatedly stabbing the target six or seven times, with not much else to do.
Of course, someSwordmaster Skillscan help, as well as a few from the Bene Gesserit class, but these have cooldowns and require players to have dipped into these classes. It would be great to see some basic melee combos available for all, and perhaps players could be rewarded more for stealth with assassinations on unshielded targets. Currently, sneaking behind enemies results in getting a number of free hits, all of the same animation.
3Automatic Blood Extraction
Switching To The Blood Extractor Can Be Tedious
Extracting blood from fallen foes is one of thebest methods for acquiring water inDune: Awakeningand a key part of survival. However, each time players want to do so, they have to switch to their Blood Extractor tool and then get close enough. While this may only be a minor inconvenience, it can interrupt the flow, and another enemy may appear, with the player now needing to switch back to their weapon.
This would feel much better if the game registered a specific click when hovering over a corpse as a trigger to start extracting blood, as long as players have the correct tool in their inventory. It would also be great if this interaction locked on from slightly further away.
2Functional Furniture
Store Clothes In Wardrobes & Sleep In A Bed To Heal
Currently, players are able to purchase furniture sets for offices and bedrooms at trading outposts in exchange for Solari. They can then decoratetheir baseswith chairs, desks, and bookcases.
However, aside from chairs which can be sat on, these items of furniture are entirely aesthetic with no function. In the future, it would be great to see furniture become functional, saving space and enhancing immersion. Clothes could be stored in wardrobes, bookcases could store schematics, and tools could be placed in toolboxes. Lying down in a bed could also possibly heal players or at least conserve more water while players go afk.
1Sandworm Riding
This Would Be Incredible, But Difficult To Implement
InDune: Awakening, players typically want toavoid Sandworms, but anyone who has read the books or watched the films will know that the most daring Fremen are capable of riding Sandworms and using them almost as mounts.
While this isn’t possible in the game currently, the devs haven’t ruled it out, even if it would be difficult to implement on the technical side of things, particularly in a multiplayer game. If they were able to pull this off, the thrill of baiting and mounting a Sandworm before riding it through the open desert would be a huge selling point for the game going forward.
