Summary

The latest developer update onFBC: Firebreakdetails the various gameplay and balance adjustments that have been planned in response to feedback from participants in the game’s pre-release closed beta. Quite a few substantial tweaks are set to be made prior toFBC: Firebreak’s launch on June 17th, all in the interest of putting the game in the best position it can be when release day finally comes around.

FBC: Firebreakmarks a pretty significant break from tradition, at least when it comes to gameplay. Unlike Remedy Entertainment’s hugely successful,story-driven single-player hits likeAlan Wake 2andControl,FBC: Firebreakrepresents the studio’s first go at a multiplayer-centric co-op experience. In typical Remedy fashion, though, the studio is keen to do things its own way, intending to avoid the typical live-service mechanics rampant in plenty of other games and give players the power to earn rewards and upgrade their gear purely through gameplay.

In the spirit of refiningFBC: Firebreak’s wacky gameplay features, Game Director Mike Kayatta recentlyshared the detailson what they learned from playtester feedback. For starters, Remedy quickly made the decision to make the game’s whole arsenal of weapons more powerful right off the bat, as many beta build players felt that ammo scarcity issues paired with generally weak damage output made early-game weapons dissatisfying to use. Combat pacing and difficulty levels have also been revised, with the game now set to have certain enemy types appear depending on the difficulty level for certain encounters. In particular, the double-barrel shotgun’s performance and firing patterns are set to be adjusted in response to feedback, so the weapon might play slightly differently to what fans may have previously seen in gameplay footage.

FBC: Firebreak Is Preparing To Deliver The Best Possible Experience On Day One

Set within the confines of an impossible building and arming players with weapons and items that defy the laws of reality,FBC: Firebreakis truly cut from the same cloth asControlin that it goes all-in on chaos. That said, the development team is aiming to tune down the game’s visual noise and effects in the hopes of improving the clarity of combat, so that players will have an easier time understanding what’s going on during particularly heated engagements. Helping players understand the game’s mechanics is another point of emphasis for the developers. The team is focused on striking the right balance between teaching fans how to play and letting them discover new mechanics naturally and intuitively, and have implemented carefully-designed dynamic tutorials to achieve this goal.

Other factors including game performance and UI clarity are also being actively worked on in response to feedback, so players can expect the full release version of the game to feature noticeably different menu interfaces than those shown in early game footage so far.FBC: Firebreakwill drop fans into yet another new adventurewithin the Oldest House when it releases later in June, and will certainly give Remedy fans something fun to chew on during the lengthy lead up toControl 2.
