The GameStop offer came just a day after the retailer made headlines for an unfortunate reason. Affected Switch 2 buyers shared pictures of the damage inflicted by the stapled receipts, although the damage was limited to customers who had purchased from just one store. GameStop and Nintendo subsequently offered replacement Switch 2 units to all affected customers for free.

However, before trading in an original Switch console to cover some of the Switch 2’s costs, users shouldconsider doing a system transfer between the Switch and the Switch 2to ensure all save data and system settings from games likePokemon Scarlet and Violetare carried over. After updating both consoles to the latest firmware, users can access System Settings on the original Switch and select the corresponding option to transfer data to the Switch 2. The Switch 2 will offer users a chance to receive Switch data during system setup.

Despite having a light lineup of launch titles, the Switch 2’s hardware upgrades are apparentfrom the start. It remains to be seen how many Switch 2 users will take advantage of GameStop’s trade-in offer.
