Elden Ring Nightreignis a high-intensity spin-off and prequel set in an alternate past of theElden Ringuniverse. Unlike the original, Nightreign is built around quick, challenging co-op runs. Each run, designed for quick, intense sessions, demands tactical precision and cooperative synergy as you and two other Nightfarers explore a world that actively changes with the coming of night. SinceNightreignhas more of a roguelike nature, the death mechanics are more impactful than in the originalElden Ring.
What Happens When You Die in Elden Ring Nightreign
When you die inElden Ring Nightreign, you will lose all the Runesyou were carrying. To add to the punishment, your currentcharacter levelwill decrease by one with each death. After you die, you’ll then respawn at the last Site of Grace you visited or a nearby safe location, giving you a chance to recover.
you’re able to also lose character levels during the Sentient Pest raid, where pests can quite literally steal your levels. In order to get your levels back, you need to follow the locusts back to the Sentient Pest’s location and defeat it.
Near Death State
If you’replayingNightreignin co-op, you don’t immediately die when your HP hits zero. Instead, you entera “near-death” state. Your character will crawl slowly, and a purple gauge will appear above them.
Your teammates can revive you by attacking your downed character. The purple gauge indicates how much damage your teammates need to inflict to bring you back into the fight. The bigger the bar is, the more damage they’ll need to inflict to revive you.
An important detail to remember here is that if you are downed during thenight cycle, the purple gauge remains active as long as your other two teammates are alive. On the other hand, during themorning cycle, a timer appears on the outer edge of the gauge. If your teammates can’t revive you in time, you will suffer the full death penalty (rune loss and level reduction) and respawn at the nearest safe spot or the last Site of Grave you visited.
If all three players in a co-op party are defeated, the run ends, and you’ll see the “Defeat” screen, meaning it’s game over for that run.
If you’replayingNightreignsolo, there is no near-death state. When your health reaches zero, you immediately see the defeat screen and suffer the death penalty. Besides this, your run will immediately end if you die in the night cycle, but you can die and respawn multiple times during the daytime.
How To Recover Lost Runes in Elden Ring Nightreign
As mentioned above, all the Runes you were carrying will be dropped at the exact location where you fell. A glowingRune Tracewill mark this spot on your map and in the world. To recover your lost Runes, you simply need to return to that Rune Trace and interact with it.
Just remember,if you die again before retrieving your dropped Runes, they are lost permanently.By successfully retrieving your lost Runes, you’ll also regain the level you dropped.
Occasionally, a nearby enemy can also absorb your dropped Runes. If this happens, the Runes will appear as a golden glow on that specific enemy. To retrieve them, you’ll need todefeat the enemy that stole them.
