Elden Ring Nightreign’smanyweaponsare crucial to your success, whether you’re a fan of greatswords, daggers, or one of the various spellcasting implements that can be found throughout the Lands Between. Tracking down the right weapons for your playstyle, however, can be a little tricky, especially if you don’t know the various methods you can use to more reliably locate the items you’re after.
In thisElden Ring NightreignGuide, we’ll be discussing the ways you may track down better melee weapons, guarantee that you’ll find staves, sacred seals, or bows, and improve the weapon you start each expedition with to make it more reliable when facing off against the deadliest foes Limveld has to offer. This information is especially useful when playing classes that specialize in spellcasting or ranged combat, since knowing how to find a staff, sacred seal, or bow more easily can make expeditions as those characters a lot less stressful and a lot more fun.
It’s important to note, however, that Nightreign’s gameplay inherently relies on a certain amount of randomness, so while these methods will make your odds of finding what you need a lot higher, they can’t 100% guarantee that you’ll always find the exact item you’re looking for. If the game decides that your attempt at the Tricephalos expedition won’t have any holy weapons, then there’s not much you can do about it without certain specific relics.
How to Get Weapons Quickly in Elden Ring Nightreign
When entering the map at the start of an expedition, players will almost always drop near a small camp containing a few weak enemies and several chests. These chests will usually contain at least a few weapons, along with some useful consumable items, so looting these camps first when you land gives you a decent chance of finding something useful for your build. Once you’ve looted this “starter camp”, your next stop when looking for weapons is to check the map. If you aren’t particularly picky about the elemental damage, head for any fort, camp, or large church and take out the boss.
Bosses, and strong enemies, will leave behind a “Dormant Power” when defeated. Interacting with these will offer each player a choice of three rewards, and at least one of these is normally a weapon. If you’re looking for a specific type of damage on your weapons, you’ll want to check the symbols next to some of the structures on the map, looking for the symbol corresponding to the damage type you’re looking for. Bosses at that location will offer weapons dealing that type of damage when defeated, making it much easier for you to find the damage type you need. The same is true if you want a particular status effect on your weapons.
How to Get Bows, Staves, and Sacred Seals Quickly in Elden Ring Nightreign
While there’s always a decent chance of finding a Bow, Staff, or Sacred Seal when opening a chestor interacting with the Dormant Power bosses and strong foes leave behind (especially when playing as the Recluse, Ironeye, or the Revenant), there’s another way to find these three weapon types. This second method guarantees that the items you loot will always be of one of these three types, though whether the appropriate weapon racks will spawn in the map is still largely up to chance.
Weapon Racks, found in Camps, Castles, and Forts, are similar in function to chests, causing several items to appear when they are opened. However, each weapon rack type will only drop items of one specific type, as indicated by the items you can see on the rack/the symbol indicating the weapon rack on the map. For example,a staff weapon rack will only ever drop staves, while a bow weapon rack will only drop bows. For this reason, players favoring Bows, Staves, or Sacred Seals should consider prioritizing the appropriate weapon racks early on in the expedition.
Characters that particularly benefit from doing this are Ironeye (Bows),Revenant (Sacred Seals), and Recluse (Staves and Sacred Seals), so players who main these characters should take full advantage of weapon racks whenever possible. The Duchess also benefits greatly from Staves due to her high intelligence, and the Executor can perform surprisingly well with status-inflicting incantations and sorceries.
To find weapon racks, you’ll want to open your map and then switch over to “detailed view.“To switch over to detailed view on your map, press the interact button (triangle on PS5) after opening your map. This will allow you to see the icons for Sacred Flask Refills, Hidden Information, Merchants and Smithing Tables, Weapon Racks with Bows, Weapon Racks with Staves, and Weapon Cases with Sacred Seals. From there, just look for the one you need for your current character/build.
How to Improve your Starting Weapon in Elden Ring Nightreign
Another way you can ensure that you always have a strong weapon is by taking advantage of the various methods you can use to enhance your starting weapon. Each of Nightreign’s playable characters has a unique starting weapon that reflects their typical playstyle, like Wylder’s Greatsword and the Duchess' dagger. These are decent weapons, though they often lack status effects and other secondary properties that are useful later on in an expedition, and their damage can fall off toward the end if you don’t do anything to fix that.
Luckily, there are a few ways of improving your starting weapon, and some of these methods can be used before you even enter the expedition.Certain Relics you can equip at the Roundtable Hold will alter the damage type of your starting weapon when equipped, or add status effect buildup to your starting weapon. By equipping these, you can give yourself a boost in the right direction, though their damage will still fall off without some effort during the run. Relics are randomized and can be obtained after finishing an expedition, whether you succeed or fail. You can also purchase some from the Small Jar Bazaar, and earn certain special Relics by defeating Night Lords.
To strengthen your weapons during the run, you’ll want to head for a mine and collect some smithing stones from the tough enemies deeper inside. You can then use the detailed map to find merchants and smithing tables, and head over there. Using the smithing table, you can improve your weapon from common to uncommon, then from uncommon to rare. The first upgrade will require a Smithing Stone 1, while the second will require the rarer Smithing Stone 2.
If you want to make your starting weapon legendary, you’ll need to reach the special forge accessible during theShifting Earth event: Crater. Deep in the Crater, guarded by a Magma Wyrm, you’re able to use the special forge to instantly turn any weapon into a legendary weapon, maximizing its potential.
