Summary
Fromsoft’s new co-op-focused spin on their iconic RPG franchise,Elden Ring Nightreign, is proving popular with fans who loveElden Ring’s combat and value some jolly cooperation. The game’s roguelite elements, along with the various character types, give players plenty of reasons to face off against the Nightlords multiple times, even after they’ve beaten the game’s final boss.
While the characters inElden RingNightreigngenerally follow archetypes established in Fromsoft’s previous games, the mechanics ofNightreignhave their own quirks that even veterans will need to get used to. Players who want touse magic inNightreignwill need to use the right Nighfarers, then find staves or seals with the Sorceries and Incantations they want while on a run.
The best character for Sorceries and Staves is theRecluse, with an S scaling in Intelligence. The Revenantis also okay with Sorcery, with a B scaling in intelligence, and the Duchess can make good use of Staves and Sorceries with an A scaling in Intelligence. Finding the best Staves will help a lot with some useful primary spells and effects. These are some of the best Staves inElden Ring Nightreign.
9Gelmir Glintstone Staff
Early Fire Damage Option
This early game upgrade on the basic staff can be used from level 3 and up, and gives sorcery players access to fire damage with theMagma Shotspell as its guaranteed primary. Like other staves, the Gelmir Glinstone Staff can drop with a variety of spells in its second slot. While its relatively low sorcery scaling means players will eventually want to replace it as their primary weapon, this staff can be useful if foundearly in a run.
8Crystal Staff
Crystal Shotgun
TheShattering Crystalspell that comes with the Crystal Staff as its primary spell can beuseful early in the game, as it can be used to deal large bursts of magic damage from close range. The spell fires a burst of crystal magic that spreads like a shotgun blast, and it can do significant damage if used from point-blank range or against larger targets. The Crystal staff also has decent sorcery scaling for a level 3 staff, meaning if players find a Crystal Staff with a good offensive spell in the second slot, this is a great staff to use until the level 7 options become available.
7Staff Of Loss
Silent Strike
Night Cometisn’t the most powerful spell players can find in the early game, but it’s worth mentioning. It’s a highly FP-efficient spell, and enemies are much less likely to dodge this compared to other magic projectiles. It’s a solid option for the early game against highly mobile enemies, though the low sorcery scaling of the Staff of Loss means that Night Comet’s damage, along with any secondary spells, will fall off as players progress.
6Prince Of Death’s Staff
Prince Of Death’s Wrath
The Prince Of Death’s Staff is a rare Staff that can only be used by characters level 7 and above. With a relatively high sorcery scaling of 122, this can be a powerful offensive option.Rancorcallitself, which summons a spirit to aid in battle, isn’t the most efficient damage spell a sorcery user can find. However, this guaranteed purple-rarity weapon can drop with a lot of useful sorceries in its secondary spell slot, too. This can be a good option, but compared to some of the other level 7 options that have high-damage primary spells, it’s more down to the RNG of the secondary spell and passive effect whether this Staff will work.
5Meteorite Staff
Gravity Magic
Gravity Wellcan be a reliable damage option for Nightfarers with a good sorcery stat. This spell fires a projectile of gravitational force, pulling enemies toward the caster when hit. The Meteorite Staff drops with Gravity Well as its primary spell, and its sorcery scaling of 125 makes it a good option for the later part of a run. A good secondary spell on this staff makes it a powerful option, but the base spell alone is enough if players need a primary damage upgrade from their earlier level Staff.
4Staff Of The Guilty
Punishing Thorns
The Staff of the Guilty is an early-game staff that can be used starting at level 3, but the primary spell,Briars of Punishment, can remain a powerful offensive option throughout a run. The spell sends thorny tendrils at an enemy, and these thorns can inflict bleeding.Blood lossdeals damage based on a percentage of the enemy’s HP, so this spell remains useful even against some Nightlords. This spell can be used by any magic user, but since the Duchess has relatively good scaling in both Intelligence and Arcane, it’s a highly effective mid-range damage option for that class.
3Carian Regal Sceptre
Carian Queen’s Moonlight
The Carian Regal Sceptre is a Legendary Staff with a unique passive effect and the powerful sorceryRennala’s Full Moonas its primary spell. The passive effect dispels any sorcery or incantations it touches, sending glintblades back at enemies when it does. Rennala’s Full Moon has a high FP cost, but it’s a hard-hitting spell, and aperfect option for the Recluse, who can reliably generate FP or negate the spell’s cost. The spell has a slow cast time, so it can be difficult to use, but if players are lucky enough for the staff to drop with another more reliable option as its secondary spell, the high sorcery scaling makes this staff one of the most powerful in the game.
2Lusat’s Glinstone Staff
Sorcery Master’s Staff
Lusat’s staff is always a good option at level 7 thanks to the primary spell,Stars of Ruin, which can deal massive damage to larger enemies and bosses. The staff has good sorcery scaling, one of the best among the level 7 staves, so it can comfortably be used as a primary weapon if it drops with a useful spell in the second slot. Stars of Ruin itself is FP intensive, so it can’t really be used as a main damage option outside of boss fights by itself. Even though the Carian Regal Sceptre can be more powerful, it’s generally easier to find either this or Azur’s Staff, making these two often the best options a sorcery user has by the time theyget to the Nightlord.
1Azur’s Glintstone Staff
The Primeval Current
Comet Azurwas a fan-favorite sorcery inElden Ring, and it’s just as powerful here inElden Ring Nightreign. The spell is guaranteed to be the primary on Azur’s Glintstone staff, and the Recluse in particular can make great use of the continuous damage from its long-range beam. The spell can be channeled for big damage, but it costs a lot of FP to do so. That’s why the Recluse is the ideal character to use this sorcery effectively, with their ability to temporarily negate FP costs.
