Summary

SomethingOne Piecefans are both looking forward to and dreading at the same time is the conclusion of their beloved manga series.Nobody knows when Oda will finally end the story at this point, but I’m convinced that it is impossible for him to finish this story in less than 10 years, and here’s why.

One Piece Has Been Ongoing For 28 Years Now

There is Still a Lot to Explore in the Series

One Pieceis now quite an old series, having started all the way back in 1997, which is 28 years ago now. The series has 1150 chapters at the moment, and it doesn’t seem like it will end anytime soon.

Every couple of years, Oda claims his story will end in a few years, and that, of course, has yet to happen. Oda never intended forOne Pieceto be as long as it is, but now that he’s so deep into it, he can’t change that anymore without cutting out major parts of the Final Saga.

The story is currently in the Elbaf arcof the story, and even the Elbaf arc itself seems like it won’t be ending anytime soon. This arc alone could take another 1.5 to 2 years for Oda to finish.

Many fans of the series have been speculating thatOne Piecewill end in 3 to 6 years, but that’s pretty much impossible. The Final Saga will be the most packed one of the story, and Oda has so much to explore that anything under 10 years seems to be straight-up unrealistic.

Why One Piece Will Not End in Less than 10 Years

A lot of Arcs Left in Addition to Oda Taking More Breaks

The reason whyOne Piecewill not end anytime soon is mainly due to the events left in the story. After all, there are still many, many hidden secrets, and many arcs that are bound to happen that are yet to start.

However, one can’t ignore that another huge reason whyOne Piecewon’t be ending anytime soon is due to Oda and the amount of breaks he has been taking.

Oda has aged a lot now, and of course, his energy level and health have been on the decline. The work of a mangaka is not easy and takes a lot of time, energy, and passion. That said, Oda has been taking more frequent breaks — typically one every three weeks, but sometimes even more often.

Every arc Oda draws now will take him double the time to finish compared to before. For example,Dressrosa is 102 chapters long, and Oda finished this arc in two years in the manga. Had Dressrosa been drawn today, it would have taken Oda 3 to 4 to finish it. Meanwhile, Egghead, which is only 64 chapters, took Oda about as long as Dressrosa in the manga, which is shocking. This is a big reason why it’s impossible for him to finish the story any faster than ten years.

One Piece Chapter 1151 will be out in a week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
