The Beast, which is a new, standalone entry in theDying Lightseries, was shown to the world for the very first time during Gamescom 2024. According to Techland, who spoke to GameRant shortly after the game’s reveal,The Beastwas initially supposed to be a DLC forDying Light 2, but an unexpected leak caused the studio to pivot its project into a full title that will bring back Kyle Crane, the iconic protagonist from the originalDying Light. While Techland now considersThe Beastto beDying Light 3, the project’s surprising journey fromDying Light 2DLC to a fully fledged game hasn’t prevented Techland from staying true to its word, asDying Light 2: Ultimate Editionowners will still be receivingThe Beastfor free.
Some Dying Light 2 Owners Will Receive The Beast for Free
Shortly afterThe Beast’s worldwide reveal last year,Techland swiftly delistedDying Light 2’s Ultimate Edition, as owners of the more expensive edition will be granted access toThe Beastfor no additional cost. Although this was announced with the game’s reveal, Techland has reiterated its plans to giftThe Beastto those who already own the Ultimate Edition ofDying Light 2. In a new post on Reddit (spotted byTheGamer), Techland said that “all owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will receive Dying Light: The Beast at no additional cost.” The studio goes on to explain that the game will automatically appear in players' libraries once it is released on August 22.
Techland also recently revealed thepre-order bonuses forDying Light: The Beast, which has also led to some confusion about how players who are receiving the game for free would also obtain the pre-order bonuses. Thankfully, the studio has also clarified this in its new Reddit post. “All owners ofDying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Editionwill get the Hero of Harran bundle at no extra cost, no action necessary,” Techland said. Once the game is released on August 22, players who receive the game for free will also have immediate access toThe Beast’s pre-order bonuses, which consist of various in-game weapons, a patrol vehicle, and an exclusive outfit for Kyle Crane.
Although the studio considersThe Beastto beDying Light 3, fans of the game’s predecessor don’t need to worry, as the2025 roadmap forDying Light 2confirms that it will continue to receive new updates, at least for the remainder of the year.Dying Light 2players can still look forward to three new events for 2025, including a Summer event, a Halloween event, and the Winter Tales event. Techland has also confirmed that a new update forDying Light 2will be released in the Fall, but the contents of the patch are currently unknown.
