Summary
Quick Links
Since the end of the original manga in the 1990s,Dragon Ballhas vastly expanded its universe. Though many spin-offs have been released, only a few of them have continued the original story.Dragon Ball GTwas the first sequel, but many fans disregard it as non-canon.Dragon Ball Super, written by Toyotaro under Akira Toriyama’s supervision (until March 2024), is widely accepted as the official sequel.
However,GTandSuperare not mutually exclusive, since they take place at different points in the chronology. Super begins a few years after the Majin Buu Saga ends, but before the Peaceful World Saga, the epilogue of the original manga. Does the epilogue’s event still make sense at this point?
Dragon Ball Z’s Peaceful World Saga
ThePeaceful World Saga, also known as “The End of Z,” is the epilogue of theDragon Ballmanga(and theDragon Ball Zanime). It takes place ten years after the Buu Saga. Although it can be considered part of the larger Majin Buu Saga, Toei officially considers it a separate arc, probably because many stories can be created between the Buu Saga and this one.
Except forDragon Ball GT, no other series featuring the Dragon Team takes place after The End of Z.Dragon Ball Daimais set almost immediately after the Buu Saga ends, andDragon Ball Supertakes place a few yearslater, before the Peaceful World Saga.Dragon Ball Super: Super Herois supposed to take place shortly before the Peaceful World Saga.
This saga introduces Bulla (Trunks’s younger sister), Pan (Gohan’s daughter), andUub, the reincarnation of Kid Buu. After fighting Uub in a tournament, Goku decides to train him, and they embark on a new journey together.
Does The Epilogue Still Make Sense In Dragon Ball?
There area few minor things in The End of Z that don’t align withDragon Ball DaimaandDragon Ball Super. For instance, in the original ending, Goku and Vegeta haven’t seen each other for five years — longer than would be possible given the events ofSuper: Super Hero.
Apart from these minor inconsistencies, there isnothing inSuperorDaimathat actually contradicts the Peaceful World Saga. With a few adjustments, the saga could still happen after the end ofDragon Ball Super. The core idea still makes sense and opens up space for new sequels.
When Will Dragon Ball Super Return?
Dragon Ball Superhas been on hiatus since March 2024, with a brief return in February 2025. Fans expected that the series would drop some good news for the10th anniversary ofDragon Ball Super, which will take place in June. Unfortunately, it seems the celebrations will be disappointing, as the series will remain on hiatus.
Toyotaro has teased that he is preparing the upcoming arcs. However, since Akira Toriyama’s death,Dragon Ball Superhas entered into muddy territory. Whatever Toyotaro delivers from now on, no matter how good, is bound to be accused of not following Toriyama’s views, and thus not being canon. For this reason, many fans think the next arc, which will likely follow Toriyama’s guidelines, should be the last. On the other hand, Toriyama may have told Toyotaro how he wantedDragon Ball Superto end, so Toyotaro likely has material about many arcs Toriyama wanted the series to cover.
What Could Come Next: Sadala Planet
Many fans wantDragon Ball Supertoreturn with the Black Frieza arc, but there are a few other possibilities. Something that would generate a lot of hype is a potential Sadala arc. Sadala is the original home planet of Saiyans, but it was destroyed due to an internal conflict. The Saiyans then overthrew Planet Plant, and renamed it Planet Vegeta. However, Sadala still exists in Universe 6, where King Sadala rules. Cabba, a Saiyan introduced in Dragon Ball Heroes, lives there.
Whether it’s another spin-off, part ofDragon Ball Super, a sequel, or something else, fans would love to learn even more about the Saiyans. If there is a way to include planet Sadala or, at least, Cabba, inDragon Ball Super, fans would definitely be excited about it. Since Frieza is a colonizer and conqueror, Sadala could be included in a potential Black Frieza arc. This would give Vegeta the perfect chance to avenge the Saiyans for what Frieza has done to them.
