Summary

Frozenfans are getting two more films from the franchise. Jared Bush, the Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Walt Disney Animation Studios, has shared a promising update aboutFrozen 3.

Frozenis one ofDisney’s most successful and beloved modern animated series. It centers on the themes of sisterhood, identity, and courage.Frozendebuted in 2013 and grossed $1.28 billion worldwide at the box office.Frozen IIwas released in 2019, earning $1.45 billion globally. The first film was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2018 and has inspired numerous theme park attractions. In February 2023,Frozen 3was officially announced. In November of the same year, Disney CEO Bob Iger announcedFrozen 4. Bush recently shared a major update when asked about the upcoming movies.

Bush spoke withCollider’s Steve Weintraub, and the latter asked whether the two upcoming movies were meant to be a two-part story. Bush didn’t respond directly but offered a promising update about the next film. “Some of that is under wraps, but what I’d share with you is that right now, the work being done onFrozen 3, specifically, is phenomenal,” Bush said of the upcoming third movie. He added that when fans see the new film, they will love going back to the world of Arendelle and witnessing the characters' new adventures that continue the narrative. He teased that it “feels very organic.” He also acknowledged the pressure and embraced their responsibility to deliver quality films. Bush said they take all the time necessary to ensure the film is remarkable. He explained:

For me personally, I think that it’s critical to make sure that every movie we do is fantastic. We have the luxury of being able to look at movies many times, so looking at Frozen 3 as, ‘Can we tell the very best story we can with that and not worry about where we’re going to split into that next story,’ is sort of important. One thing at a time is, to me, the best way to approach it.

As Opposed To Worrying About The Story OfFrozen 4, The Production Team Is More Focused On NailingFrozen 3

Filmmaker Jennifer Lee, who directed the first twoFrozenmovies with Chris Buck, shared more details about the sequels at D23. According to her, the last movie,Frozen 2, left a lot of questions that needed two movies for answers. Lee also shared concept art fromFrozen 3, which she said (viaDeadline) “captures the scene of Anna and Elsa.” According to her, they were all excited to return to that world. The artwork features Anna and Elsa horse riding. Olaf, the inanimate snowman, shares the ride with Anna. The two sisters stare at a castle, which some liken to the fortress at the end ofSnow White. Some find it similar to the same estate fromSleeping Beauty. Regardless, many love concept art and hope that the movie will be as great as the design.

Bush’s statement reinforces their hard work to deliver another greatFrozenmovie with their quality-first mindset. His use of the word “organic” also emphasizes that the next film is not just another sequel but a new journey that maintains the emotional and narrative authenticity that fans love about the franchise. He also said they would not work on the next two films simultaneously, underscoring their commitment to makingFrozen 3a great film on its own. This shows that Disney is not rushing to capitalize on the popular franchise and is dedicated to crafting a compelling and standalone story for the third movie. With Bush leading the creative department and weighing in on his statement,Frozen 3should be character-driven, emotionally grounded, and narratively cohesive.
