Some core mechanics withinDestiny 2are going to evolve once Edge of Fate arrives. Previously, the studio revealed that thearmor system inDestiny 2is getting overhauled, offering things like set bonuses and a new tier system that features better stats and perks. This week, thestudio announcedchanges to gear vendors like Ada-1 and Banshee-44 with the former offering players the ability to focus exotic armor while the latter will be selling legacy weapons to help players complete their collection. Gambit was originally introduced in the Forsaken expansion forDestiny 2, adding a unique PvPvE style mode which quickly became a hit with players. However, things eventually turned as the game mode went for long periods without any updates, growing stale for many and seemingly being abandoned entirely by Bungie. While Gambit continues to have a loyal fanbase, many continue to wonderwhat Gambit could have been inDestiny 2if it had been a major hit.

Destiny 2 Placing Gambit on Hiatus

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that fans will get a chance to find out, as Bungie is planning to put Gambit on hiatus once Edge of Fate launches. Bungie confirmed that the mode will remain available to play and offer legacy rewards from the Worlds tab of the Director. While Bungie doesn’t have current plans to update the mode with new content or gear, the blog reaffirms that this isn’t the end of the road for Gambit. The studio will eventually bring Gambit back to the forefront with new rewards and mechanics that players haven’t seen since theSeason of the Drifter’s Gambit Prime.

Gambit isn’t the only legacy activity getting a break once Edge of Fate launches. Bungie also went on to confirm that Iron Banner will be sidelined until September alongside the plannedDestiny 2Ash & Iron major update. Reasons for this move or how Iron Banner may be changing weren’t provided, though Bungie did announce that Heavy Metal would be coming back to fill the gap alongside a new Crucible mode called Cutting Edge, which restricts loadouts to only seasonal gear and exotics.
