Zenitsu Agatsuma: The Sleeping Warrior
Jigoro Kuwajima’s Disciple is a Ruthless Fighter When His Instincts Take Over
Zenitsu Agatsuma seemed unfit forthe Demon Slayer Corpswhen he made his debut in the series. Easily overwhelmed, always complaining, and afraid to fight demons, he came across as an unreliable companion for Tanjiro and Inosuke, both of whom were always prepared to put their lives on the line for the greater good.
I hate myself more than anyone. I always think I have to get my act together, but I end up cowering, running away, sniveling. I want to change. I want to be a competent person.
Interestingly, asAgatsuma displayed glimpses of his potential, public opinion swayed in his favor, and many fans of the series changed their opinions. It’s strange that he paradoxically didn’t change much as a character, but when his instincts took over in a state of unconsciousness, Zenitsu seemed invincible, as if he were a completely different person. His unstoppable fighting prowess over the seasons has earned him praise from viewers, who wish to see him evolve into a fearless version of himself. But will it ever happen?
How Infinity Castle Will Reveal Agatsuma’s True Potential
Losing His Master Will Liberate Zenitsu From All His Fears
Until the Hashira Training arc, Zenitsu displayed glimpses of greatness in several fights over the seasons, but he hardly changed as a person. His cowardice and timidity turned off quite a few viewers, who just can’t stand him. Meanwhile, fans who liked him expected to see a more fearless and ruthless version of him, which unfortunately did not happen for the longest time. Apart from glimpses of greatness, Agatsuma hardly evolved. While he might have improved as a fighter, he still seemed completely lost as a person and barely showed any desire to fight or even train.
But all of this changed when he received a mysterious letter whiletraining under Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima. Like always, Agatsuma had detested every moment of training with the Hashira until that point. He kept complaining and trying to run away. But as soon as he read the letter, something changed inside him. In an instant, he was no longer the person he once used to be.
Zenitsu isolated himself and barely ate anything as he meditated and trained alone, lost in his inner world.Even when Tanjiro paid him a visit, he barely talked to him and refused to eat the food he offered. Usually, Agatsuma would have complained about extreme training conditions and made a huge scene out of the harsh situation, but he no longer grumbled despite bleeding profusely from his head. But what had led to this dramatic change?
For most of his career as a demon slayer, Zenitsu struggled to find a meaningful reason to push himself or put his life on the line. While he did stand up for the greater good in his unconscious state, he barely showed any desire to fight when he was back in his senses. But when the mysterious letter revealed to him that his master Jigoro Kuwajima had committed seppuku, he could not come to terms with the news of his death.
It was a gut-wrenching reality that made all his fears and complaints irrelevant. The only person who stood for him was no longer alive, and Zenitsu now desperately wanted to avenge his death. What made Jigoro’s death so painful is that a person close to his master had not only betrayed his values but also backstabbed him in the worst possible way imaginable.
This is my form. I created it, so it’s all mine. With this technique… I wanted to fight you as an equal!
Driven by this desire for revenge, whenZenitsu entered the Infinity Castle, he no longer cared what would happen to him. All fear of death was gone, and he could fight without going into his usual unconscious state. For the first time in his life, Agatsuma had a purpose, something that he must do at all costs.
In the Infinity Castle movie, he is all set to enter theextra-dimensional space created by Nakimeto go after the person responsible for his master’s untimely death. But this battle will be unlike any he has fought in his life as he no longer fears dying or getting seriously injured. Zenitsu is expected to reach his full potential and surpass all expectations in the face of his biggest challenge yet. Infinity Castle movie is going to have quite a few memorable moments and Agatsuma’s fearless battle will surely be one of them.
