If there’s one thing that everyMarvel Cinematic Universestar has in common, it’s having to stay silent about character details and big storylines when interviewed. But whenDavid Harbour told Scarlett Johansson that she must secretly be inAvengers: Doomsdayin a joint interview, she had the perfect and most hilarious reply.

WhileAvengers: Doomsdayisn’t being released for quite a while, there is, of course, plenty to talk about. FromChris Evans saying he’s “sad” not to appear in the filmtothe release date being pushed backfrom May 7th, 2027 to December 17th, 2027, fans are eager to hear every update. Although some stars might simply say “no” when someone asks if they’re in a Marvel movie, Johansson had a fantastic response that fans will want to hear.

Scarlett Johansson Has A Great Reply When David Harbour Says She’s Secretly Starring In Avengers: Doomsday

When discussing their acting careers forInterview Magazine,David Harbour said he thinks that Scarlett Johansson will show up inAvengers: Doomsday. Harbour said:

“Oh, come on, Scarlett. We all know you’re the secret character. We all know the Black Widow comes back from the dead.”

Johansson replied to her Marvel costar:

“If I come back from the dead, then half the world’s population dies. Didn’t you see Endgame for Christ’s sake?”

It was a perfect and humorous response that any Marvel fan will appreciate. While of course audiences always want to see their favorite stars come back to the MCU, sometimes that would mean retconing an entire storyline or pretending that something huge didn’t happen. When it comes to a franchise that has this much lore, that’s a terrible idea. While fans havewondered about Johansson’s return, it sounds like, based on her comments to Harbour, she doesn’t think there’s a way for her character to ever come back.

Johansson also mentioned how Marvel actors are sworn to secrecy and told theStranger Thingsactor, “I haven’t lost my magic Marvel touch yet. I’m not even contracted to Marvel and I’m still f*cking holding your secrets.”

Johansson has, of course, addressed Black Widow’s MCU future more than a few times. In an interview withInStyle, she said:

“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead… We’re going tohaveto let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

During theirInterview Magazinechat, Harbour brought up thatJohansson starred in Marvel projects for a decade, which is definitely a big chunk of her career. Shefirst played Black Widow inIron Man, which was released in 2010, and reprised the role in the 2012 sequelIron Man 2. She played the role again inThe Avengers, which came out in 2012, along with 2014’sCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, 2015’sAvengers: Age of Ultron, and a few other films. Her last appearance wasAvengers: Endgame, which was released in 2019. As Johansson pointed out,Black Widow has a memorable end to her arc, and that shouldn’t be changed or ruined.

Recently, Johansson has taken on some voice roles, such as Ash in 2014’sSing: Thrillerand Elita-1 in 2024’sTransformers One. She is also reprising her role of Zora Bennett inJurassic World Rebirth. While theJurassic Worldfranchise has been too priceyand poorly received, Zora is at least an intelligent and compelling character. As for Harbour, fans are eagerly awaiting the end of his character arc as Jim Hopper inStranger Thingsseason 5, which will premiere in November 2025.
