Momo, Okarun, and Jiji’s First Brush with the Kito Family

Daija Town: A Small City Harboring Sinister Secrets

Knowing the dangers of the high-stakes mission they were about to embark on, Momo invitedOkarun to join her and Jiji on their tripto Daija Town. Since Ken was already feeling insecure after Jin’s sudden reentry into Momo’s life, he immediately accepted the offer, not realizing that the adventure awaiting them would be life-changing.

As soon as the trio stepped foot in Daija Town, there was an atmosphere of unease and foreboding, as if the region was hiding a sinister secret. The initial paranormal investigation at Jiji’s house found nothing out of the ordinary. Instead of waiting till evening at the house for another analysis,Momo felt that it would be betterif she visited some places while the boys stayed home.

While Momo left, Jiji and Okarun started playing together, completely losing track of time and not realizing that they were being secretly watched. In fact, ever since the trio had stepped foot in the house, their movements were most likely being tracked by Jin’s landlords, the Kito family. They observed the boys playing outside and likely even noticed that the duo had figured out there was a room next to the foyer.

Meanwhile, Momo visited the local hot spring, unbeknowst to the dangers around her. She expected to spend time relaxing alone but was soon approached by the creepy members of the Kito family. Momo failed to notice the rusted board that mentioned that the hot spring was a co-ed bath.

But instead of ensuring that she feels safe, the weird men proceeded to not only join her in the bath but also force themselves upon her. The season ended on a cliffhanger with Momo’s fate hanging in the balance and her friends getting close to finding the real truth about Jiji’s house.

Dandadan Season 2 Is All Set to Expose Kito Family

The Kito family appears to be spying on Jiji for some strange reason. It would not be far-fetched to assume that this was not the first instance of them doing so. They not only kept an eye on him, but some members of the family had the audacity to go after Momo, completely disregarding all boundaries.

If the Dandadan season 2 trailer is any indication, the upcoming installment is all set to unveil the Kito family’s dark secrets. The latest preview starts with Jiji transformed into a recognizable cursed entity. Since an exorcism is mentioned later in the video, it is highly likely that Jiji is probably possessed by ayokai whose name is later revealed to be the Evil Eye. Jin can be heard saying:

“He’s been fighting alone this whole time! He’s been suffering all along!”

However,Turbo Granny can also be heard desperatelytrying to convince Jiji not to show any sympathy to him. In this brief moment, visuals of a young boy tied to a pole with lava slowly approaching his feet are shown. It appears that the person Jin is talking about is none other than this young boy, who for some reason was murdered or sacrificed. Now that he is a spirit, Jiji somehow learned about his past and feels sorry for him. Meanwhile, Turbo Granny thinks that the Evil Eye can’t be trusted.

It’s unclear what the spirit’s motivations are, except for the fact that he talks about a grudge that can’t be eradicated. He also attacks Jin’s friends after possessing his body, which might indicate that Turbo Granny was somewhat right about the spirit not being trustworthy. But one might wonder how all of this connects to the Kito family.

The season 1 finale concludes withOkarun and Jin finding a mysterious roomnext to the foyer. The Kito family, who owns the house, has allowed the Enjoji family to live there without any rent. While this alone should have raised suspicion, they appear to be spying on Jiji and his family for a while, including the guests who visit the home. At one point in the trailer, after it mentions the great serpent legend without going into too many details, one member of the Kito family can be heard saying:

“Dragon rising to heaven will cast a rainbow, and the wrath of the mountain will engulf the village.”

While these words can be heard in the background, the Daija Town volcano explodes. Although this explains the second half of the quote, the first half still remains a mystery. But the visuals are followed by another mention of a grudge, alluding that it will have its vengeance. It does not seem like a coincidence that the spirit possessing Jin also talked about a grudge at the start of the season 2 trailer.

The Kito family appears to havesome connection with the Evil Eye. Since the spirit was once a young boy who was murdered or sacrificed, it’s not surprising that it wants revenge or holds a grudge. What’s interesting is the manner he died. As mentioned earlier, the boy was surrounded by lava, tied to a pole in his last moments, and a member of the family mentioned the volcano exploding and engulfing the village. It appears that the Kito family might have been involved in some sacrificial rituals, and the Evil Eye was, at least, one of the victims when he was a young boy sometime in the past.

However, it’s not entirely clear what are their motivations behind it. But the trailer does paint a gory picture of the village’s past. The upcoming arc will surely shed lighton the mysterious Kito family and the crimes they have committed. Since they try to assault Momo so casually, it appears that they have no fear and are used to committing serious crimes without any concerns for repercussions.

There are four main clues to the Daija Town saga: the Evil Eye, the great serpent legend, the creepy Kito family, and the volcano. While the trailer has already established some connection between the Kito family, the volcano, and the Evil Eye, it is unclear how the great serpent legend will fit into the picture. Fans will have to wait for Dandadan season 2 to find concrete answers.
