Okarun, Momo, and the Never-Ending Drama

The Duetraogonists Share a Complex Bond

Okarun and Momo could not have been any differentwhen they first met each other. While Momo Ayase was far more popular among her peers and had quite a few friends, Okarun was not as lucky. From a young age, he was bullied for his unique interests and ended up deciding that he would only befriend aliens. But despite his best efforts, he could not establish direct communication with them.

I’m an awkward fellow after all. ~ Ken Takakura to Momo Ayase

Okarun eventually became hopelessand the bullying turned into an inescapable reality. He tried to avoid all of it by burying himself in alien conspiracy theories. But his hopeless life took an unexpected turn when Momo noticed him getting bullied and decided to take a stand for him. Her action paved the way for their friendship and the two of them soon realized that they believed in conflicting but bizarre urban legends, conspiracy theories, and myths.

Momo and Okarun’s refusal to conform to each other’s beliefs pushed them on a path of adventure that transformed their lives. Their shared experiences brought them close and formed a bond that sometimes appeared to be more than just friendship. While Momo and Okarun slowly became aware of these feelings, they never truly expressed them. However, the circumstances always pushed them on the verge of confession.

When Aira Shiratori first saw Okarun, she looked down on him and treated him harshly. But whenAcrobatic Silky tried to kidnap herand Okarun heroically put his life on the line to rescue she was left stunned. His altruistic attitude impressed her to the point that she started fantasizing about dating him. Her obsession made Momo Ayase uncomfortable, who was still coming to terms with her feelings for Okarun. On several occasions, she almost lost her composure revealing that deep down she did not see Ken as just a friend.

Since the moment I met you, my life has changed completely—my world used to be gray, but thanks to you, now it’s in color! ~ Taro to Hana

Meanwhile, Okarun was also facing a somewhat similar crisis. Having never fallen for anyone before, Ken could not tell what his strange feelings were about when Jiji’s return to Momo’s life made him uneasy. But when he saw Taro propose to Hana, he felt that his feelings were finally put into words.
