While several horror franchises have been going strong since the ’80s and ’90s, I think theEvil Deadfranchise is perhaps the most intriguing. Afterthe first movie was released in 1981, fans had to wait several years for the second and third films in the original trilogy, and then there was a huge gap between the next few movies. However, after the most recent movie,Evil Dead Rise, was released in 2023, it was clear that audiences were eager for more of this campy and fun paranormal story.
Although I usually countScreamas my favorite horror franchise and I’m eager toseeScream 7in February 2026, I’m also looking forward toEvil Dead Burn, especially thanks tothe recent casting news involving a belovedWednesdayactor. I’m curious if they’re playing a character who is similar to their role on the hit Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega, and I can’t wait to hear more.
As a big fan ofWednesday, I was excited to hear thatHunter Doohan is starring inEvil Dead Burn, as reported byDeadline.At the time of this writing, Doohan’s character description isn’t available, but I’m wondering if he’s going to play a villain again.
Doohan did an impressive jobplaying Tyler Galpin/The Hyde Monster inWednesdayseason 1, and I’m intrigued by his casting in the newEvil Deadmovie. The role of Tyler wasn’t an easy one since he becomes Wednesday Addams’s (Jenna Ortega) friend and love interest, and he doesn’t let on that he’s part monster.Doohan made viewers believe his character was 100 percent kindand perfectly hid Tyler’s evil side. I was surprised when Tyler showed his true nature since he seemed so genuine, and I like that he’s a complicated character who does have some compassionate instincts. I think would be fun to see Doohan play another villain, especially sincetheEvil Deadmovieslean into the supernatural, and so doesWednesday. There could be some major similarities between Tyler and hisEvil Deadcharacter, which would be cool to observe.
Evil Dead Risehad some fun Easter Eggs, and I, along with many fans, enjoy watchingthe horrifying Deadites in each movie. I’m wondering if Doohan could become a Deadite, and I think it would be interesting, especially if audiences get to know his character well first. Doohan’sWednesdayarc is so good because viewers get to know Tyler and think he’s a lost, confused, and kind person who can relate to Wednesday since he also doesn’t fit in. But then he surprises her by revealing that he’s been partly evil this entire time.
No matter what kind of character Doohan ends up playing, he’s had a compelling career, and it’s fun to follow along with the different projects he has signed onto. BesidesWednesday, he appeared on two legal dramas. He played a teenage version of Warren Cave onTruth Be Toldand Adam Desiato onYour Honor, which also starred Bryan Cranston. Most recently,Doohan played Bastian Cooper/Muse five episodes ofDaredevil: Born Again,which is getting a second season. Next, fans can see him play Tyler again inWednesdayseason 2, which will be released in August and September 2025. Doohan’s characters are complicated, and even though he becomes the Hyde Monster, Tyler is definitely the most likable person he’s played.
TheEvil Deadfranchise has five movies so far, andEvil Dead Burnis number six.The upcoming movie hasa release date of July 24th, 2026and is being produced by Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi. Director Sébastien Vaniček co-wrote the movie with Florent Bernard. Besides Hunter Doohan, the other cast members announced so far includeTandi Wright, Souheila Yacoub, and Luciane Buchanan.
