Aside from slaying the Nightlords, which helps make progress in the primary campaign ofElden Ring Nightreign, each character also has their own storyline told through Remembrance questlines. Advancing further in each character’s story comes with some valuable rewards that can help players more with their next journeys inLimveld.

Guardian is the one character that features the longest personal journey in the game. His story is somewhat complicated, intertwined with a few of the other characters in Roundtable Hold. It also requires more work to earn memory fragments than other characters to complete the story arc of Guardian.

Memory Fragment Guardian - Elden Ring Nightreign

Requirements: The Journal, Memory Fragments, And Revenant

Before you even begin the questline for Guardian, there are a few requirements to meet. The first one is unlocking the journal, which is the easiest part, as it will be available once you complete the tutorial run and come back to the Roundtable Hold. You can find it inside the room next to the character selection altar.

Next up,you need tounlock Revenant. This might not be needed earlier in Guardian’s questline, but you won’t be able to get past Chapter 8 without Revenant unlocked. So, make sure to tackle this requirement earlier, as unlocking her requires you to win a specific fight, which might require some trial and error.

Chapter 4 Guardian - Elden Ring Nightreign

Last but not least, you will need Memory Fragments. Unlike the previous requirements, which are one-off things, memory fragments are recurring requirements. This means you are going to need it at multiple points throughout the questline to make progress in the story.

The only guaranteed method to earn memory fragments is bydefeating Nightlords. While in earlier chapters of the story, you can even earn memory fragments by failing in an expedition, later parts will require the player to defeat at least one or more Nightlord to achieve a memory fragment.

Iron Menial Guardian - Elden Ring Nightreign

Guardian Remembrance Questline

Chapter 4

The first remembrance that you can relive with Guardian unlocks inChapter 4. So, until then, you should continue farming memory fragments until you eventually reach Chapter 4. Usually, a single successful expedition will unlock all chapters until Chapter 4.

Begin remembrance in the journal, and you will respawn in a room withRaiderand Iron Menial.Speak with Iron Menial repeatedly. You are going to engage with him in dialogue four times overall. So, keep talking to him again whenever the conversation is over until you receive a personal objective for defeating a Guardian Golem.

Chapter 6 Guardian - Elden Ring Nightreign

Now, head to the main hall and begin an expedition. Upon your arrival in Limveld, the map will be updated with an orange marker, which showcases the location of your personal objective. This is where theGuardian Golemis located. So, head there and examine the Golem to wake him up.

The Guardian Golem is quite slow and predictable, but its attacks deal devastating damage. If you hit one of his feet enough, he will fall down unconscious, giving you a golden opportunity to deal as much damage as you can without any threats.

Merchant Visitor Offers - Elden Ring Nightreign

Once the Guardian Golem is defeated, it will drop aStone Stake. At this point, the personal objective is completed, and you can fail the expedition to return to Roundtable Hold quickly. Talk to Iron Menial again and show him the Stone Stake. Now, interact with the spell gate that appears in the corner of the room to conclude the remembrance.

After returning to the present, you will receive theStone Stake relicas a reward.

After Collapsing - Elden Ring Nightreign

Chapter 6

Completing the remembrance in Chapter 4 will unlock Chapter 5, but the next remembrance becomes available in Chapter 6, which requires you toobtain memory fragments. Again, defeating a Nightlord still guarantees a memory fragment drop at this point in the story.

Once you get a memory fragment, begin the remembrance in Chapter 6. This time around, you should meet a new face in Roundtable Hold, known asthe visitor. He is located inthe same room where the Change Garb drawer is placed. Talk to him twice and get the mysterious charm. If you engage in a dialogue with him for the third time, he will offer some relics in exchange for Murk. Now, return to the main hall at Roundtable Hold, and you will collapse.

Chapter 7 Guardian - Elden Ring Nightreign

After you wake up, meet the visitor once again, kill him, and grab his ledger. Even if you want to leave him alone, the story will not progress. So, you just have to kill him. Now, conclude the remembrance, and upon your arrival in the present, collectGuardian’s Chaliceas a reward.

Chapter 7

After you’re done with Chapter 6, the next chapter will unlock automatically without requiring a memory fragment. So, begin the remembrance for Chapter 7 and speak with Iron Menial in the room behind the journal’s room. Explain what happened to the visitor, and show him the Merchant’s Ledger. Iron Menial will now task you with a new personal objective tofind the Demon Merchantin Limveld.

How To Find The Demon Merchant In Limveld

This is the trickiest part in the Guardian’s questline. There are two ways to obtain the tome or the third volume of the book from the Demon Merchant. The easiest way is to meet the demon in Limveld and pay 10,000 Runes to obtain the tome, but the problem is that sometimes he just doesn’t appear on the map. This is still more like an unsolved mystery, but apparently, each player manages to find the demon merchant in a specific expedition.

He should appear on the map withan orange markersimilar to other personal objectives, butthere is a chance that you don’t get any objective markersif you don’t pick the correct expedition. For me, the Demon Merchant appeared in the expedition for Tricephalos, but some other players have reported that it appeared for them in Augur’s expedition. I did try Augur before Tricephalos, but it didn’t appear to me there. Some other players have reported they have received the marker in the expedition for Equilibrious Beast.

Demon Merchant Location - Elden Ring Nightreign

So,your best bet is to just start expeditions for each Nightlord one by one and check your map when the expedition begins. If you don’t see the objective marker on the map, then fail the expedition and begin another one with another Nightlord. Keep cycling through the expeditions until you get the marker for the Demon Merchant. And make sure to accumulate 10,000 Runes before meeting him. You are going to choose"I want the tome"when speaking with the demon to receive the third volume of the book.

This is one way to get the Third Volume, butthere is also a more difficult way, which is beating the Equilibrious Beast. So, while in remembrance, run the expedition for the Equilibrious Beast and reach the final battle on Day 3. Although the beast will try to make a deal with you before beginning the fight, he will not offer the tome at this point. No matter whether you make a deal with him or not, you must defeat him to get the Third Volume, as he is the Demon Merchant.

Chapter 9 - Elden Ring Nightreign

Regardless of which way you have earned the Third Volume, show the book to Iron Menial after coming back to Roundtable Hold and conclude the remembrance. You will receive theThird Volume reliconce you are back in the present.

Chapter 9

After making it to the end of Chapter 7, you will also unlock Chapter 8, but it doesn’t have a remembrance to relive. So, you need to get memory fragments again to unlock Chapter 9. Also, keep in mind thatyou must have Revenant unlocked at this point. Without unlocking her, you won’t get any memory fragments to make progress from Chapter 8 onward.

Also, it’s worth noting that unlocking Chapter 9 may require you to defeat more than one Nightlord or defeat the Night Aspect instead if you have it unlocked already.

Anyway, when Chapter 9 is available, begin the remembrance, and you will finda letteron the Roundtable Hold. Read it, then go to the merchant Jar’s room, and you will finda book with a silver highlighton the top corner inside a shelf. Read it as well, then head out from the same room andmeet Reclusestanding on the edge of a cliff. Check your map if you have difficulties finding her location.

Speak with Recluse, and you will get two options: either to punish or to forgive her. It doesn’t matter which one you choose, as Guardian will eventually forgive Recluse. However, forgiving her will give you the Witch’s Brooch relic, while punishing her grants the Cracked Witch’s Brooch relic. Yet, there is no difference in the stats of the relics. Now, conclude the remembrance and come back to the present.

You will receiveGuardian’s Remembrance skinas the final reward. And the storyline for Guardian will come to an end here.
