Summary

As fascinating asMy Hero Academia’s super-powered world is, it’s also an incredibly dangerous place to live in,seeing as heroes and villains are constantly fighting each other with their incredible and powerful quirks. As a result of this intense conflict, many characters havelost a limbor two in battle, regardless of which side they are on.

Many prominent figures in this series have tragically lost an arm or a leg during a major battle, and while most of them were able to replace them with an advanced prosthetic, this loss still had a huge impact on their lives, as it became a reminder of how dangerous their line of duty truly is.

8Ectoplasm

Lost His Two Legs To An Unnamed Villain

Ectoplasmis undoubtedly one of the most underrated characters in the series since, despite his limited number of appearances, he has captivated fans due to his excellent design and his versatile quirk called Clones. However, not many people are aware of the fact that he actually lost both of his legs before the main plot even started.

According to author Kohei Horikoshi in Volume 7 of the manga, Ectoplasm lost his two legs in a fight against an unnamed villain many years in the past, and now wears two lightweight prosthetics that not only allow him to walk, but also to fight by unleashing powerful kicks. Fortunately, this loss didn’t stop him from continuing to work, both as a Pro Hero and as U.A. High School’s math teacher.

7Atsuhiro Sako (Mr. Compress)

Lost His Left Arm To Overhaul

The initial confrontation between the League of Villains and the Shie Hassaikai resulted in two tragic losses for Tomura Shigaraki’s team, since not only did Kai Chisaki (AKA Overhaul) suddenly murder Magne with his destructive quirk, but he also used his power to completely obliterateMr. Compress’ left arm.

This magician-themed villain was naturally enraged by his enemy’s course of action, mainly because he actually needed his arms and hands to activate his excellent Compress quirk. Fortunately for Mr. Compress, he would later receive a prosthetic arm from Giran, which he used to take revenge on Overhaul alongside the rest of the League of Villains at the very end of the same arc. Curiously enough, he later upgraded his prosthetic hand so he could shoot his marbles from its fingers.

6Kai Chisaki (Overhaul)

Lost His Two Arms To Mr. Compress And Tomura Shigaraki

Overhaul, the leader of the Shie Hassaikai, is one of the most hateable characters inMy Hero Academia, seeing as he captured and tortured a young girl named Eri to exploit her Rewind quirk. Fortunately, this heinous villain got a satisfying comeuppance when the League of Villains attacked the ambulance that was escorting him to a hospital right after Izuku Midoriya defeated him.

The League of Villains confronted a helpless Overhaul and immediately began to take their revenge on him for both destroying Mr. Compress’ arm and killing Magne in cold blood: Mr. Compress used his quirk to take his left arm, and Tomura Shigaraki used Decay to disintegrate his right arm. All Kai Chisaki could do was watch in terror as Shigaraki mocked him because he needed his hands to activate his quirk, meaning that he was never going to be able to use it again. Overhaul could still be seen without his two arms, even when Lady Nagant helped him escape from Tartarus, which proved that he never got any prosthetics to replace them, possibly because he was feeling regretful for all the things he had done.

5Rikiya Yotsubashi (Re-Destro)

Lost His Two Legs To Tomura Shigaraki

Similarly to Overhaul,Re-Destrois a powerful villain who made the mistake of messing with Tomura Shigaraki.During the Meta Liberation Army Arc, he and his organization attacked the League of Villains and tried to force them to awaken their quirks, which concluded with an incredible fight between both teams’ leaders.

When Tomura Shigaraki remembered his past and awakened his Decay quirk, he unlocked the ability to disintegrate everything around him, without even needing to touch it. In the middle of this chaos, Decay eventually reached Re-Destro, who quickly used pieces of his destroyed armor to cut them off before it could disintegrate the rest of his body. After this fateful event, he began moving around in a floating chair, and he wore two prosthetic legs. This, unfortunately, gave him a big disadvantage in battle, since his new legs broke apart because they couldn’t withstand the power of Fumikage Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow during the Paranormal Liberation War Arc.

4Rumi Usagiyama (Mirko)

Lost Her Left Arm And Right Leg To The High-End Nomus

The Rabbit Hero:Mirkois definitely one of the most popular Pro Heroes inMy Hero Academia, both in-universe and in the real world, and her heroic actions during the Paranormal Liberation War Arc contributed to her overall popularity. Despite having a quirk that just enhances her physical strength and her agility, she single-handedly raided Kyudai Garaki’s laboratory and fought against five powerful High-End Nomus by herself.

While she certainly put up a great fight, she tragically suffered some major losses during it: Robot completely destroyed her left arm, and Ribby pierced through her right leg. Nevertheless, Mirko kept fighting anyway, and she played a key role in the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front. Losing two limbs didn’t seem to stop her at all, because she later received two special prosthetics and kept working as a Pro Hero during the Final War Arc and beyond. It’s no surprise that she managed to maintain her place among the Top 10 Pro Heroes in Japan, even eight years after the ending of the story.

3Shota Aizawa (Eraser Head)

Lost His Right Leg To Tomura Shigaraki

Many characters have lost a limb or two when fighting against Tomura Shigaraki, which makes a lot of sense, considering that Decay is an inherently destructive quirk that can disintegrate everything in just a few seconds.ButShota Aizawa(AKAEraser Head)is a noteworthy exception, because he lost his right leg to the infamous villain, but this event had nothing to do with his quirk.

During the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, Shigaraki shot Eraser Head with one of the Quirk-Destroying Bullets he had previously stolen from Overhaul to get rid of his Erasure quirk, which was a major nuisance to him and his plans. However, the Pro Hero acted rationally and decided to use a knife to slice off his own right leg, so the drug wouldn’t spread to the rest of his body. With one quick but clever action, he managed to save his incredible quirk and lost just one leg in exchange, which he eventually replaced with a prosthetic.

2Enji Todoroki (Endeavor)

Lost His Right Arm To All For One

“Wounded heroes are always the scariest” is the iconic phrase that appeared inthe epic scene in which Endeavor kept attacking All For One despite having just lost his right arm. This happened because, in the middle of their intense clash during the Final War Arc, the Symbol of Evil used one of his many quirks to completely destroy Endeavor’s right arm.

While this momentarily discouraged the Flame Hero, he was able to charge back into battle after a moment of self-reflection with his younger self. In one of the most epic and satisfying moments in the entire series, Endeavor created a fist with his own fire and unleashed a devastating attack called Vanishing Jet Burn on All For One. After the Final War Arc came to a close,Enji Todorokiwas so incredibly wounded and burned by all of his battles that he had to use a wheelchair, and he seemingly never received a prosthetic right arm, although it was never made clear if this was his own choice.

1Izuku Midoriya (Deku)

Lost His Two Arms To Tomura Shigaraki

The main character of the series,Izuku Midoriya, also fell victim to Tomura Shigaraki’s destructive quirk, but his situation was completely different. During their climactic final battle, Deku intentionally transferred One For All to the villain so he could talk one-to-one with him inside the vestige world. This heroic sacrifice not only resulted in the loss of his quirk but also in the loss of his two arms, which were disintegrated by Decay in both the vestige world and the real world.

However, when Deku’s allies arrived seconds later to help him end the fight,Aizawa gave him Eri’s broken horn, in which she had accumulated a lot of energy from her Rewind quirk. Thanks to this, the protagonist was able to regenerate his two arms just in time for the final battle, meaning that he’s the only character in all ofMy Hero Academiawho was able to recover his lost limbs, without needing to use any prosthetics.
