Thorn Soul Bulbs are a key element introduced inBoruto: Two Blue Vortex. Much remains to be explained about what they are exactly, butBorutofans have already developed many theories about how they work. Now that the story has reached an exciting point with the Konoha shinobi fighting the Human God Trees (also known as Shinju Clones), more information on the Thorn Soul Bulbs should be revealed soon.
Thorn Soul Bulbs Are The Core of Human God Trees
Thorn Soul Bulbs were introduced inBoruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 12, and every Shinju Clone has one inside them. Shinju Clones were created after Code used his Claw Mark in the Ten-Tails, creating humanoid soldiers known as Claw Grimes. However, the remains of the Ten-Tails gave birth to Jura, the leader of the Shinju Clones. Similarly, when a Claw Grime consumes a person, that person is sealed inside a small tree that suddenly appears, and a Human God Tree emerges, bearing a resemblance to the person and possessing their chakra signature. Unlike Claw Grimes, Human God Trees are self-aware and each has a target seemingly related to the person sealed in the small tree.
Little has beenrevealed about Thorn Soul Bulbs, but they appear when a Shinju clone is defeated. Boruto Uzumaki stated that they are the key to bringing back Sasuke Uchiha and anyone else who has been absorbed by a Claw Grime.
Thorn Soul Bulbs Could Be Like Chakra Fruits
The most plausible theory now is that Thorn Soul Bulbs aresimilar to Chakra Fruits. However, instead of absorbing the chakra of all living beings, they only contain the genetic material and chakra signature of those absorbed by the Claw Grimes. They could perhaps be described as the souls of these people, but considering how muchNarutorelies on scientific concepts related to genetics, it islikely that they will establish that the bulbs contain genetic material. Human Tree Gods also apparently have some sort of feelings that they may have inherited from the original person, but they experience emotions differently than humans do.
However, the Human God Trees probably need the original person to be alive to exist. Thus, the Thorn Soul Bulbs may function as a link between the Shinju Clone and the absorbed person. Perhaps the Shinju Clones are after specific people to complete their transformation into fully independent beings, which would explain why they consider themselves superior to Code, their creator.
Boruto Probably Knows More About Shinju Clones
InBoruto TBV Chapter 22, it’sclear that Jura is upsetthat Boruto knows at least some basic information about the Shinju Clones. In earlier chapters, it looked like Boruto was only explaining basic information to Sarada Uchiha and the others to protect himself and them. However, he probably knows more about the Human God Trees and their Thorn Bulbs, especially since Koji has probably shared more with him — at the same time, it also seems like Boruto is still hesitant about Koji.
Because, starting with the Thorn Bulbs, for whatever reason, you seem to know way too much about us Divine Trees.

When Will Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 23 Be Out?
The next chapter ofBoruto TBVwill likely focus on thebattle between Boruto and Juraand may feature a new, powerful jutsu. Some also expect Mitsuki to interfere in the fight to protect Boruto, something that would undoubtedly anger Kawaki once he learns about it.Chapter 23will be released on May 19, 2025.
