Blumhouse Is Working On A Movie Adaptation Of The Video Game Phasmophobia
According toVariety,Blumhouse is making a movie based on the video game Phasmophobia. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are producing and they’re working with Kinetic Games Limited, the developers of the game. Blumhouse shared the news on June 3rd, 2025 at their Business of Fear event.
Phasmophobia is a multiplayer game about hunting spirits, and it was released in 2020.The horror game feels grounded, and that will make it a great movie. The game is fairly scary, and there’s no doubt that the movie will lean into the terrifying environment. According toNME.com, Kinetic Games shared their plans for the game on Discord in 2021 and wrote that they wanted to:
“make sure that scares inPhasmophobiaare tense and interesting. We also don’t want to resort to cheap jump scares for the majority of the horror."
Phasmophobiawill be the latest ina long line of Blumhouse paranormal movies. The production company is known for releasingtheInsidiousandParanormal Activityfranchises, which were both huge successes.Insidious: The Red Doorcame out in August 2023, and, according toBloody Disgusting,Insidious 6will be in theaters in 2026. The seventh movie,Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, was released in 2021, andBlum said it was “terrible.“It doesn’t seem likely that Blumhouse will release another movie in the franchise. However, there are plenty of scary supernatural Blumhouse stories to enjoy, including2024’sHouse of Spoilswhich tells the story of a talented chef who notices strange things happening when she moves to the country to open a restaurant.
