Grief mode inBlack Ops 6 ZombiesSeason 4 is a PvPvE feature where two four-player teams compete to outlast each other. Players can’t deal direct damage to opponents, so victory depends on surviving increasingly tougher waves of enemies. True to its name, Grief mode allows teams to complete Zone Capture missions to impose temporary debuffs that disrupt the opposing team and make survival more difficult. The game mode will become available uponBlack Ops 6Season 4’s launch on May 29.

According to the Season 4 patch notes,Zombieswon’t receive any new maps. Instead, Grief mode will introduce modified versions of existingBlack Ops 6Zombiesmaps, referred to as “Arenas.” At launch, there will be 11 Arenas, including two based on Liberty Falls and four from Shattered Veil. For those unfamiliar, an Arena is a condensed version of a full map, limited to select regions only.

It looks like Activision is leaning further into nostalgia. Afteradding the Legacy HUD toBlack Ops 6 Zombies, the company is now reviving an entire game mode first introduced inBlack Ops 2. Grief mode was originally planned to return inBlack Ops 4but was ultimately cut. That makes Season 4 of the sixth installment the first time this fan-favorite mode officially makes a comeback in the series. Those eager to try this intriguing PvPvE challenge should mark May 29 on their calendars.
