Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Could Reignite a Playful Rivalry

Black Ops 6 Is Bringing Back The Olympia

A double-barreled shotgun with low range but high damage, the Olympia made its debut in2010’sCall of Duty: Black Ops. Though the Olympia didn’t make much of a name for itself inBlack Ops' multiplayer mode, it rose to fame in the game’s Zombies mode, where it was easily available in early rounds.

The Olympia reappeared inCall of Duty: Black Ops 2andBlack Ops 3, though only in the campaign and Zombies mode of the former. But after an eight-year-long hiatus, the Olympia is getting another chance in the spotlight.Call of Duty: Black Ops 6Season 4 will add the Olympia during its mid-season wave, where players will be able to earn the weapon via a yet-unannounced special event.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Olympiaseems to function exactly as fans remember it, with it dishing out high damage at close range, and it needing frequent reloads. Players will also be able to customize the Olympia with the Short Barrel and Cut-Off Stock attachments, which should give players a little more say in how the weapon works.

Black Ops 6 Could Stoke Some Old Flames With Another Classic Weapon

While it’s great to see the Olympia return from the dead,Call of Dutyveterans will know it’s just one half of an infamous duo. When the Olympia rose to fame thanks toCall of Duty: Black Ops' Zombies mode, it did so right alongside the M14, a semi-automatic rifle that was just as easy to obtain during the mode’s earlier rounds.

Due to both weapons costing the same number of points and often appearing in the same room, a playful rivalry formed between those who preferred one weapon to the other. Looking back ontheCall of Dutycommunityin the early 2010s, forums were flooded with “Olympia Gang” and “M14 Gang” memes, where one side would mock the other for their choice of starting room weaponry.

Treyarch even referenced this rivalry itself through a Tweet poking fun at M14 lovers following the announcement that the Olympia was returning. With the studio clearly aware that M14 fans will want their favorite early game weapon back, too, it seems even likelier for it to make a comeback.

Though the M14 has shown up in an assortment ofCall of Dutytitles since its debut appearance inCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, its brief but hilarious rivalry with the Olympia remains its most iconic appearance. And with the Olympia now coming back to the fore, it’d be a great opportunity forBlack Ops 6to stoke the flames of rivalry once more.
