Summary
The Slormancerisa cute pixel-art gamethat hides an ARPG behemoth behind the deceptive visuals that will take up hundreds of hours of the player’s time if they are willing to spend them. It’s a small game with a lot of depth, and it can take quite a while to master.
The many gameplay mechanics, vast skill trees, and impressive variety of equipment can feel very overwhelming at first, but players will get used to them as time goes on. That said, there are a few things that new players should keep in mind when starting out to get the hang of things.
8Declutter The Inventory
Filters To The Rescue
Ordering gear neatly isn’t the most important thing inThe Slormancer, but it is good to do nonetheless. Gear makes up a decent portion of one’s build, and having the correct equipment ready and available for when the player needs it can be quite convenient.
Equipment can start cluttering the inventoryof the player as they continue grinding. They should either sell their non-essential gear items, such as normal or rare items, toJemma the Gold Inspector, orkeep them in the warehouse. If the player has items in the warehouse, they can sort them using filters to keep them tidy and ready for prompt pick-up.
7Unlock Game Mechanics Quickly
Rank Up As Soon As Possible
Players will want tolevel up their character as soon as they canso that they can experience the game fully. Different aspects of the game unlock slowly, andgetting through the first 5 hoursor so of gameplay is required in order to get everything players need to really have fun in the game.
Players will also rescue villagers as they progress through the main quest, slowly getting more NPCs in the village to help them on their journey.
At the start, the game will only give players primary and secondary skills to work with. However, it will slowly reveal all the other mechanics, like ancestral skills, gear crafting, expeditions, etc. Players should aim to get through the first part of the game as quickly as possible to get to the juicy chunk in the middle and end.
6Choose The Right Skills
Class And Support Skills
The main damage-dealing methods that players have inThe Slormancerare skills. There arethree main skills. There are other types of skills in the game that can be relevant in the later stages, too, but they aren’t as important as the three main skills.
Players can equip multiple skill upgrades, one per tier, for each skill.
These include the primary skill, the secondary skill, and the support skill. The first two skills are equipped to the left and right mouse buttons, respectively, while the support skill is equipped to the spacebar.Choosing the right skillsat the start can really help the player in the long run. In general, players should have one attack for AoE and one for single target damage. This way, they will be able to manage any situation they’re in with ease.
5Don’t Stress The Details
Not At The Start At Least
The Slormancerthrows a lot at the player right at the beginning - different characters, class skills and skill upgrades, weapons and weapon upgrades, attributes, ancestral skills, and gear upgrades, etc. It’s important that the player doesn’t get bogged down in the details too early on.
Build optimization is a key part of the gameplay, but there’sno real point in trying to optimize one’s build early ondue to the high rate of initial unlocks. In the same vein, players shouldn’t get attached to the numbers and descriptions of different pieces of gear early on either. The levels go all the way from level 1 to level 50+, so trying to hang on to anything too early will prove useless and counter-productive. Once players have reached a decent level, they can think about optimizing their gear to fit with their build and enhancing it a few times to make it truly shine.
4Grinding Is Normal
Embrace The ARPG Life
Players should remember that althoughThe Slormancerlooks likea cute pixel art game, it is no different from ARPGs likePath of Exile 2andDiablo 4. A lot of grinding is required in order for players to experience it properly.
This means that players can expect to spendmany hoursdoingsemi-repetitive tasksfor the sake of getting their level up, finding good loot, and progressing the questline. This isn’t a con; it’s a pro.
3Spend Slorm WIthout Worry
Respeccing Is Free
One of the most important things for players to understand is thatrespeccing inThe Slormanceris entirely freeand without cost. There is no requirementone needs to fulfill before they cancompletely change their character.
Whether it’s attributes, class/support skills, or the ancestral tree, players can take away their invested points and respec them without any penalty. It’s a great way to let the players experiment as much as they want without any worry.
2Try Different Builds
Find Your Own Style
There area lot of different buildsand styles of playing inThe Slormancer. Players can be aspell-casting mage, along-range archer, or abulky tankthat takes on enemy attacks head-on without feeling a thing. Finding what suits the player the best is important to enjoying the game.
Since respeccing is free, players can even try different builds and approaches for the same character. They should try different weapons, skills, gear, characters, and builds to see what fits their style the best and stick with that. Once players explore all aspects of their characters to their satisfaction, they’ll find the build that suits them the best.
1Keep A Singular Focus
Eyes On The Target
Once the player has explored all their options, they should choose their lane and stick to it. This doesn’t mean that players shouldn’t have a diversified build at all, but in general, it’s better to have a focused build than a general one.
For example, players should focus on one or two attributes, since they get amajor traitat every fifth andgreater traitat every fifteenth attribute point in a given branch. Additionally, players can’t transfer levels between different characters or Slorm Reapers, making it suboptimal to keep switching between characters.
