Summary
InRainbow Six Siege X, many of the operators are divided into their own subcategories depending on what they are designed to do during a round, but one of the most important when it comes to defenders is the roamer. As the name implies, these operators excel at wandering close to the site and getting the drop on unsuspecting attackers by sneaking around corners and hiding in the shadows. While it’s definitely fun to assume the position of a roamer, being able to play the role to its full effect can still take a little bit of practice, but it can also be hugely important to find the right operator for the job, too.
Now that there are a plethora of operators who fit the roamer description that have been added to the game, there’s definitely a handful who are still among the biggest standouts. Whether it’s because of their weapons, their equipment, or even their gadgets, there are multiple reasons why an operator could be a better fit for a position than others, so withSiege Xnow being out in the wild, it’s time to take a look at who really are the best of the bunch when it comes to roaming.
8Goyo
Block Off Central Entrypoints With Explosive Cannisters And A Lightning-Fast SMG
Despite beingtweaked and nerfedmultiple times since Goyo’s introduction, the operators' explosive canisters still stand as one of the best defensive gadgets in the game. However, while it’s definitely viable to set these devices up around the point as an anchor, the best way to use Goyo is as a roamer who can place down traps around key entry points to avoid the attackers getting in close.
It’s important to remember that once one of Goyo’s canisters explodes, the flames they produce will remain on the floor for a very long time, which can force attackers to take a different route, which will inevitably end up wasting their time. Admittedly, running with Goyo does require good map knowledge and awareness alongside the ability to control his lightning-fast Vector SMG, but he can still be extremely deadly in the right hands.
7Warden
Warden’s Gadget Makes Him the Perfect Counter To Fast-Paced Infiltrations
Warden’s gadget may seem pretty basic and not all that interesting, but it can honestly be an extremely handy tool for holding off attackers, especially those with equipment that is designed to give them easy entry. Warden’s glasses make him completely immune to flash bangs and smoke grenades anytime he has them activated, so if operators like Ying or Sens are trying to hide their presence while breaking into the point, Warden will be able to deal with them easily.
However, the glasses can only be turned on for a few seconds at a time, so knowing exactly when to use them during anintense matchis important for making sure they don’t end up getting wasted. Still, when it comes to dealing with intrusions and obstacles that attackers can deploy, Warden is fully equipped to deal with anything that comes his way.
6Mozzie
Mozzie Can Use Attackers' Drones Against Them To Seek Out Intel
Quick reflexes andsolid gunplayare important for being able to perform well in a match ofSiege. What is more crucial than anything is being able to gather intel on the enemy. This is made pretty easy for Mozzie, who is able to hack an attacker’s drones, which he can then use for himself. As a result, he’s a roamer who is able to stay out of sight while still finding out the whereabouts of the enemy team, making life easier for not just him but also his comrades.
Mozzie also comes equipped with a high-powered assault rifle, which performs extremely well at close to mid-range, so never be afraid to get up close and personal when jumping into a match with this guy. Mozzie can be quite situational, considering that if his drones are destroyed, then he won’t be any better than the average operator, but he can be a nightmare for enemies to deal with when firing on all cylinders.
5Oryx
Oryx Can Reach The Enemy Quickly By Charging Through The Map
One important aspect of the roamergameplay loopis being able to create what are called rotation holes. To put it simply, these are holes in a wall or floor which the roamer can use to get around the map a lot easily, and, while these are usually created with precious explosives or bullets, Oryx’s charge ability allows him to create a hole with his own body.
On the one hand, this can be thrown out in the prep phase to set up a few rotation holes which can be used to flank the attackers, but players also have the option to use charge during the match to throw the attackers off guard by creating loud audio cues. Oryx is quite similar to Sledge in the sense that both are able to surprise the enemy by knocking down walls in mere seconds, but Oryx’s speed and strength make him an especially dangerous roamer who has become extremely popular over the last few years.
4Alibi
Alibi Is Able To Use Gadgets To Play Mind Games On The Enemy Team
When Alibi was first released in season 3, she was primarily used as an anchor who would remain on the site and pick enemies off from afar. In the last few years, though, players have found some pretty interesting ways to utilize Alibi’s mimics, which all look exactly like Alibi and will ping an enemy if they are shot. By tossing a few of thesedecoysat random points on the map, players can immediately find out where the enemies are coming from after hearing that first ping noise.
The decoys are also just a clever way for the roamer to play mind games on the enemy, since they’ll be forced to guess whether what they’re looking at is the real Alibi or just yet another illusion. Alibi’s high-recoil SMG is also specifically designed for close-quarter encounters, making her an extremely effective roamer for her team.
3Solis
Solis Spots Incoming Electronics To Keep The Site Protected
Considering the attackers already had an operator who was able to detect electronics through walls in IQ, it only made sense that there would eventually also be a defender who could do this too, and this takes the form of Solis. Though Solis' gadget was heavily nerfed not long after she was introduced, it honestly doesn’t take much away from the ability itself, since she is still able to detect drones, gadgets, and even a few projectiles by loading up her Spec-IO.
As a result, she can remain in the shadows while also gaining information on the enemy’s attack plan without needing to put herself in danger. While this will obviously be useful at the start of around to determine where the enemy is coming from, Solis is also great at pinning down enemies when there’s only one or two of them left, considering that she can pick up on any drones to immediately figure out how to respond.
2Caveira
Caveira’s Interrogation Ability Can Turn The Tables Of An Entire Match
Caveira is often regarded as the first true roamer operator in all ofSiege, but despite being around for so long, she still stands tall as one of the best in the entire game, and there are a few reasons why.Caveira’s pistol, while a little lacking and damage, will easily incapacitate an enemy with only a few shots, giving Caveira the opportunity to then interrogate them once they’re on the floor. A successful interrogation will result in the entire enemy team being completely visible even through the walls, and this applies not just to Caveira but also to her allies.
Needless to say, one interrogation can change the course of an entire match, but that’s not the only reason why Caveira stands out as a roamer. Her Silent Step allows Cav to navigate away around the map without barely making a peep, making it easy to get the jump on an opponent who is too concerned with pinning down the anchors who are defending the site.
1Vigil
Avoid Drones And Sneak Up On Enemies When They Least Expect It
On the surface, Vigil’s gadget can seem a little plain in comparison to many of the others, but it’s hard to emphasize just how much of a game-changer the ERC-7 truly is. With the press of a button, Vigil is able to make himself completely invisible to any drones, and since drones are the attackers' main method of scoping out areas and getting a lay of the land, it can make it almost impossible to figure out where Vigil is hiding.
Not only does Vigil come with Impact Grenades, which can be used to create rotation holes quickly and easily, but players can also opt to go with the Bulletproof Camera instead to have full vision of a specific room or area of the map. This isn’t even mentioning hisK1A submachine gun, which possesses high power and fire rate without going too crazy with the recoil. Vigil has long been considered the most popular roamer in the game, and considering his entire kit is based around sneaking through the map and picking off enemies while remaining hidden from sight, it’s unlikely this is going to change anytime soon.
